When SHAME is speaking loudest, accepting GRACE can feel unsafe.

"I notice" and "I recognise" statements are a way to finding self recognition by detaching judgment from fact.
Nothing more, nothing less.
"I notice I am frowning, I recognise I am angry". I notice my jeans are tight, I recognise I am judging".

Recognition comes before acceptance.

"Of course" statements are a way to finding self acceptance by further still detaching judgment from fact.
"Of course I am frowning and angry when I see myself in jeans". "Of course I feel triggered in this environment".

Through acceptance, Grace has a chance to light it's candle.

Rewiring our beliefs and behaviours takes time and a willingness to surrender.
Grace is sufficient and enough when we recieve it for the gift it is.

"Rules without relationship leads to rebellion".

For years I used food as an external vehicle of rebellion to my internal rejection of self.

I've experienced that as my relationships centre closer to Love, my defensiveness around rules naturally dissipate. Following the 'rules' becomes an extension of Love's overflow.

Rather than exercise being a rule, it becomes an activity of joy, having appreciation for my body. Rebellion is reframed as food becomes an ally, as opposed to an enemy. πŸ™πŸ€

A common characteristic known within eating disorders/disordered eating is perfectionism and performance based mindsets.

Perfectionistic beliefs TRANSFERRED into the physical body hinders and distorts one's ability to see in full truth. Attempts to control a physical body through a 'symmetrical lens' (straight, even, proportional definition) contributes to the establishment of body dysmorphia.

"My tummy hangs over my jeans, my abs are not flat"
"My chin hangs lower than my jawline"
"My thighs don't have a straight gap"

For years I measured my body not only through the numbers on a scale, but through straight lines, even surfaces, defined edges and symmetrical appearances.

Rewiring years of body hate and dysmorphia is possible. A slow process, that requires acceptance and vulnerability.

Small reframes are a great place to start.

"Yes, my tummy hangs over my jeans. (Acceptance) I am willing to detach my worth from my appearance".

"I notice a double chin. I can also note that I can talk, eat, smile and sing".

"My legs may not have a gap, though are able to support my movements. I am choosing to appreciate their function".

"I am willing to let go of resistances that no longer serve me".

"I am practising to look beyond my body's image and appreciate my body's functions".

Today I carpooled with some friends to go on a hike. I observed myself instantly wanting to compare my body size to the person sitting next to me. The thought captured, sounded like:
"My legs are bigger than hers, they sit higher off the chair".
A thought used to shame my body's appearance, compare and then measure my worthiness to those around me.

I previously would have used these thoughts to fuel motivation into "trying harder" in diet, lifestyle changes, exercise, wellness endeavours.

Instead what I did today was observe the thought. Labelled it as spam, unhelpful. I met it with facts and some gentle gratitude to reframe my perspective.
"Yes my legs are bigger, my height, bones and frame are longer. We have different genetic designs". "I am grateful that my legs have supported me on a hike today".
