"Shining the spotlight on chronic pain.

This week is National Pain Week, shining awareness on chronic pain that individuals within our community live with daily.

Chronic pain is widely misunderstood and there is still a lot we need to learn about it and how to treat it.

By learning about what people are experiencing when they live with chronic pain, we are increasing public awareness and understanding, and improving their quality of life through building a more supportive and inclusive community.

At Healthfocus, we want to support people to move well through their life and their day-to-day life.

If chronic pain is impacting your life, get in touch with our team today. We can help you to take the first steps to managing your condition, and work with your doctor and specialists to help you get back to what you enjoy.

"Connection is key.

For people living with chronic pain, simple tasks that we take for granted such as getting ready in the morning or going about a daily activity can actually be very exhausting for a person with chronic pain.

It’s important to connect and communicate with your family and friends, and people in the community, about your experiences with chronic pain and to lighten the mental and physical load.

We know the impact of chronic or persistent pain is significant, and is also associated with decreased mental health.

We also know that 3.6 million Australians live with chronic pain, whilst only 1 in 100 will have access to multidisciplinary pain management programs.

To break your pain cycle, reach out to our team today.

"Preventing injuries when you head to the snow.

The snow season has well and truly arrived, with buckets of snow across the local snowfields.

You might be thinking of heading up this weekend, but it’s important to keep in mind how you can prevent injuring yourself whilst enjoying what the snow has to offer.

Just like when you play a regular sport, it’s important to ‘warm up’ prior to hitting the slopes so your body stays warm and encourages blood flow to your muscles which can prevent injuries.

By completing some simple stretches like leg swings, lunges and arm circles with squats, you’re not only improving your flexibility and balance but minimising the chance of injury.

Don’t forget to do some recovery stretches after your big day at the mountain to avoid any soreness and stiffness.

Want assistance in knowing what you should do pre and post skiing to minimise risk of injury? Chat with our local team today.

"Managing your diabetes through regular exercise.

Living with diabetes means being aware of how it can affect different parts of your body over time and how you can develop diabetes related health conditions.

It’s important to stay active to proactively manage your diabetes. By staying active and moving your body well, you can experience a range of benefits including:

🟣 Improved blood sugar control, by reducing insulin resistance and reducing blood glucose levels
🟣 Maintaining a healthy weight
🟣 Lower blood pressure
🟣 Insulin works better, which improves your diabetes management
🟣 Improved joint and muscle movement, and strengthening bones
🟣 Reduced stress and anxiety
🟣 Improved sleep

It’s also important to exercise safely and know when your body has had enough and that you need to rest. Don’t take part in strenuous physical activity if you’re feeling unwell.

Want help to create a plan to keep you moving to manage your diabetes? Chat to our team this week as part of National Diabetes Week.
