UniSA 4th year Speech Pathology students were the stars of my recent Mondays. It was an absolute pleasure to see, as an examiner, the culmination of four years of study, collaboration and mentorship, in their final adult case presentations.
Well done to them, and to their teaching team! 👏

And that's a wrap on the IDDSI Academy Pilot in Brisbane, a long day, with more steps logged than you'd expect in one room.
It was a privilege to assist Julie Cichero and Peter Lam, the co-founders of IDDSI, in delivering Australia's first IDDSI Academy today.
The overwhelming response was, when is the next one?

Skills training with Aged Care workers for Communication and Dementia.
I had a vibrant session with one of our partner organisations yesterday, bringing ideas and practical strategies to a group of Care Workers - learning together, expanding concepts, and going over time as usual 🙄
Sharing one of my passions today!

The IDDSI Academy Pilot in Florence was an exciting and validating experience. We 'do' IDDSI so well in South Australia, but there's always more to learn and share in this space.
I am so pleased to be a member of the first cohort of IDDSI Certified Practitioners!

I was a guest speaker for a Parkinson's group this week, and one of the communication-improving ideas from our collaboration was to get eye contact with our communication partner before having a conversation. A great tip from someone's lived experience.

Should we all do that? Eye contact can make some people feel uncomfortable, but let's try to hold a conversation with someone within earshot at least!

IDDSI and Dysphagia care training sessions for 2024 finish this week!
Well over 200 sessions were delivered this year by the NWSP clinical team - thank you to everyone who participated... testing, mashing, mixing, laughing... we've had a wonderful time engaging with you all, and look forward to doing it all again in 2025.
Our sessions will recommence in the first week of January 2025.
