Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! 👩‍🎓 🔬 🩺

Today we celebrate the women whose talent, resilience and curiosity are driving scientific discovery and inspiring the next generation to follow.

Mater Research is proud of the progress being made, however the global gender gap remains clear. Women represent just:
👩‍🎓 35 per cent of STEM graduates
🔬 1 in 3 researchers
💼 22 per cent of the STEM workforce
🏆 and only 10 per cent of STEM leaders.

Watch to learn about how our researchers are taking action and how Mater Research is fostering an environment where women thrive 👉 mater.li/45RMMgK

Our Story

Mater is guided by the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy who first established Mater in 1906 when they built the first Mater Private Hospital. This was the start of a tradition of care and compassion for the sick and needy that continues to inspire us today.

Mater Group was formed in 2016 by aligning Mater Health, Mater Education, Mater Research and Mater Foundation under a single, unified banner. It has enabled us to combine our services and skills across Mater's ministries to deliver innovative solutions and take new opportunities as we adapt to the changing needs of our community. An entirely privately owned and operated charitable company, Mater remains committed to its Mission and reinvests any revenue from the business back into the provision of health services for the community.
