Medical Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) – 6-Week Post-Operative Progress
Performed by Dr Andrew Hadj
Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is more than a cosmetic procedure - it's a reconstructive operation designed to repair the abdominal wall and remove redundant skin and fat after pregnancy, significant weight loss, or ageing. Many patients are surprised to learn that it can also improve posture, core stability, and even back discomfort caused by weakened abdominal muscles (recuts diastasis).
During surgery, the re**us muscles - which may have seperate up to several centimetres - are carefully repaired to restore abdominal integrity. The skin and underlying tissue are then redraped, removing an overhang or "apron" (pannus) that can cause irritation or infection. In select cases, liposuction is added to refine contouring.
Medical facts patients often don't know:
• The umbilicus (belly button) is usually repositioned through a new opening, not removed.
• Repairing muscle separation can enhance core strength and breathing mechanics.
• Numbness across the lower abdomen is common and temporary, improving over several months.
• Full recovery can take 6-12 weeks, with swelling continuing to settle beyond that.
• Compression garments support circulation, reduce swelling, and help shape final results.
Our focus is always on functional and aesthetic restoration. Every surgical plan is tailored to the individual's anatomy and goals to ensure results that look and feel like you.
