Dr Alex Alexander

Dr Alex Alexander My OBGYN aims to make a difference in peoples' lives My OBGYN is a practice that looks after women's health.

Our principles are based on continuity of care starting from IVF treatment, if and when needed, to antenatal care and pregnancy, to gynaecology and general women's health. Our years of experience gives us the flexibility to look after both low risk and high risk patients.

A fertility consultation is more productive when some groundwork has already been done. Your GP can help by ordering a few key tests before your first visit with a specialist.

In Episode 4 of In Good Hands, Dr Alexander explains what test results he finds most useful to have on hand for the first fertility appointment. Having these results is not essential, but can save time, meaning that fertility treatment can start sooner.

When the same doctor knows your history across years, every decision is made with the full picture in mind. Dr Alexander's approach to women's health is built on long-term relationships with his patients, ensuring that care today is always informed by what comes next.

Continuity of care in women's health is about more than convenience. It provides reassurance, builds trust, and means your doctor understands not just where you are now but where you are heading.

When the same specialist knows your history over years, every decision is made with the bigger picture in mind. A choice made today can influence outcomes a decade from now.

Delivery is a team effort. Midwives are the eyes and ears in the labour ward, and a good relationship between obstetrician and midwife is essential to a safe outcome.

With his office two minutes from the labour ward, Dr Alexander is always close. When a midwife calls with a concern, everything else stops. The patient in labour is the priority until she is delivered safely.

In a field where care is often shared across multiple professionals, Dr Alexander has made a deliberate choice to be personally involved at every stage.

"I think this is a blessing for me to actually know my patients by heart."

When the hospital calls about a patient, Dr Alexander already knows who she is, how many weeks along she is, what she has been through, and what medication she is on. No briefing required.

That level of familiarity doesn't happen by chance. It comes from being personally involved at every scheduled visit and making a commitment to know each patient thoroughly, not just their file.

Infertility affects about 1 in 6 Australian couples trying to have a baby. That is not a rare experience. It is a common one, and it deserves to be talked about openly.

National Infertility Awareness Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the emotional and physical toll of the fertility journey, and to remind anyone going through it that seeking help is a positive step, not a last resort.

Dr Alexander has spent over 25 years helping women and couples navigate fertility challenges. If you have been trying for 12 months without success, or 6 months if you are over 35, speaking with a specialist can provide clarity and a path forward.

You do not have to navigate this alone.

Some patient relationships span a lifetime. Dr Alexander has cared for women from their teenage years through to pregnancy and delivery, and after 20 years in practice, is now seeing the babies he delivered return as young adults.

That continuity matters. When your doctor knows your full history, every decision is informed by years of understanding, not a single appointment.

Delegating doesn't come easily when ensuring the best outcome for patients. Having a dedicated team that's highly communicative, provides after-hours care, and shares the same commitment to outcomes means patients are in good hands throughout their journey.

This is why the partnership between your fertility specialist and their clinic matters. The right team supports both the doctor and the patient.
