Welcome to the world, little Hugo! 😍

Newborn Hugo Christopher has officially made history as the first baby born at Mater Private Hospital Townsville’s new maternity unit at Pimlico.

Hugo arrived last Tuesday weighing 3.4kg — much to the delight of mum Abby Christopher and the Mater maternity team.

“It’s lovely to finally have him in my arms, and we are thrilled to be the first family enjoying Mater’s new maternity unit,” Ms Christopher said.

“I had a baby two years ago at the Hyde Park campus and this is an exceptional upgrade.

"It’s the same caring staff, but the facilities here are like a 5‑star hotel and we never want to leave.”

Mater Private Hospital Townsville’s new family‑focused maternity unit features:
💙 Three state‑of‑the‑art birth suites
💙 A six‑cot special care nursery

Channel Nine court reporter Anna Rawlings and her husband Nick welcomed their baby boy Xavier into the world earlier this week.

Weighing 2.9 kg, Xavier was born at Mater Mothers’ Private Brisbane and is the first child for the couple who are thrilled with his arrival.

“We are besotted and definitely enjoying being in the baby bliss bubble,” Anna said.

“We are biased, but he is the cutest baby we’ve ever seen.

“We are so happy we went through Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane, because the care has been exceptional.

“I even got a foot massage from one of the volunteers the other day, which was divine.”

Anna is taking a year of maternity leave and will be back on 9 News Queensland next year.

We’ve arrived! 🏥

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in maternity care at Mater Mothers’ Private Townsville — now officially located at our Pimlico campus.

This is a special milestone for our team and the families we support. After months of planning, preparation, and thoughtful design, we’re proud to open the doors to our new maternity home.

What this means for you:
Our new location has been purposefully created to offer a calm, comfortable and family‑centred birthing experience. From refreshed, welcoming spaces to modern facilities, every detail has been designed with mothers, babies and families in mind.

If you have questions about your upcoming birth, your appointments, or how the move relates to your care, your obstetrician or midwife is the best person to guide you.

We can’t wait to welcome you.

Thank you for growing with us — and for being part of this exciting new chapter.

At one of the most challenging moments in her life, two incredible Mater midwives were there when it mattered most. 💗

Baby Heidi was delivered at just 29 weeks while her mum, Katie, was in ICU.

During this difficult time, midwives Imogen and Beth went above and beyond to ensure both mum and baby received exceptional, compassionate care.

We are so proud to have midwives like Imogen and Beth on our team — dedicated professionals who embody the very best of what we do. 🥰

Good vibes only ✨

Our Mater midwives - like Kenz from our Midwifery Group Practice team - know how important a peaceful, supportive birthing environment is — and our birthing suites are designed to help you feel exactly that.

Congratulations to Channel Ten reporter Pippa Sheehan, who recently celebrated the birth of her son, Wally.

Born weighing 4.1 kilograms after a three hour labour at Mater Mothers' Private Brisbane, Ms Sheehan is thrilled.

“He’s in good health, he’s absolutely gorgeous and his two older brothers are besotted with him," Ms Sheehan said.

“My care at Mater was fantastic, I was very well looked after and felt very nourished.

“I also got the surprise of my life when I got offered a foot massage from one of the volunteers, it was so nice and unexpected."

Ms Sheehan is taking 12 months of maternity leave and will be back on Ten News Queensland early next year.

🤩 1 week to go — week 39 🤩

👶 Your baby is now about the size of a wallaby joey, typically weighing 3.3–3.5+ kg and measuring 50–52 cm. They’ve developed a strong grasp, their reflexes are now beautifully coordinated, and their lungs continue to mature in preparation for breathing independently. Their brain has tripled in weight during the third trimester — these final days support incredible growth and readiness for birth.

🏥 Our update: In just one week, we’ll be opening the doors to our new maternity home at Pimlico. We can’t wait to welcome you into this thoughtfully designed space — created with comfort, privacy, and family‑centred care at its heart.

💕 If you’re unsure about how the move may affect your birth or upcoming appointments, your obstetrician or midwife is the best person to guide you through the details.
