We are now taking bookings for all flu vaccination appointments

For people most at-risk of complications from influenza, seasonal flu vaccines are funded under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) and we will be conducting flu clinics for patients eligible for the NIP-funded vaccines. The following are eligible for NIP-funded influenza vaccines for 2025:

• all children aged six months to less than five years
• pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
• First Nations people aged six months and over
• all people aged 65 years and older
• people aged six months and over with certain medical conditions associated with increased risk of influenza disease and severe outcomes are recommended to receive annual influenza vaccine. Please call the practice on 6432 2222 to book your flu vaccination appointment with your usual GP, for the NIP-funded vaccines as well as for privately-purchased vaccines for individuals, families and corporate businesses.

Having Flu-like symptoms?
To all our valued patients – if you have flu-like symptoms we ask you to stay at home and book a telephone consultation with the doctor for advice and your care. Examples of flu-like symptoms are fever, chills, runny/stuffy nose, cough, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, headaches, body aches or shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

We continue to ask all patients booking appointments as well as patients checking in at the practice about possible flu-like symptoms in an effort to reduce the transmission of COVID-19, RSV and Influenza A & Influenza B, all of which are still present in our community. Please be honest when answering our questions as you will still receive the necessary care for your condition. We will certainly be able to arrange a telephone consultation for you with your doctor. If there is need for your doctor to see you in person, your doctor can, through the reception staff, arrange that for you in a manner that is safe for you, other patients, visitors, staff and the other doctors at the practice.

We also ask that you self-test using the combined COVID-19, RSV and Influenza A and B test kits ahead of calling the practice for an appointment. Combined test kits can be purchased from local pharmacies. If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or RSV or Influenza A or influenza B, please call us from home, proceeding to come to the clinic once your doctor has advised accordingly.

If you have flu-like symptoms, please call us on 6432 2222 (and in doing so, let us know you have the symptoms) so we can arrange for appropriate care for your condition and state.

Clare, Community Engagement Officer from Diabetes Australia, will be at Southside Family Medical from 10am until 12pm this Wednesday the 17th of July 2024.

Please come along to the practice and meet Clare.

Clare will be happy to discuss all things diabetes and will also have some information to pass on to you such as:

• Diabetes programs & services provided within the greater Burnie
area

• a talk about the kind of moves that will make a difference to your
health & well-being

• brochures and other tools

Dr Ahmad is a medical doctor with over 20 years of experience in general practice in Iran, who recently settled in Burnie with his family. He is now available for appointments at Southside
