Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be effective!

There’s a common belief that movement only “counts” if it’s hard, sweaty or leaves you sore the next day.
For many people, that belief becomes a barrier to moving at all.

But intensity isn’t what helps the body most.
Consistency, control and appropriateness matter far more.

In fact, pushing too hard when the body isn’t ready can increase tension, reinforce poor movement patterns, or flare up old injuries.

A quiet habit that can make movement feel harder than it needs to:

Avoiding movement because it feels like it has to be all or nothing.

This often shows up as:
• stopping movement after a flare-up
• waiting until motivation or energy is high
• thinking gentle movement “isn’t enough”
• cycling between doing too much and doing nothing

Over time, this pattern can reduce confidence in movement and increase stiffness or sensitivity.

✅ A small win you can try today:

1️⃣ Choose one area that feels stiff or tired.
2️⃣ Move it slowly through a comfortable range for 60–90 seconds.
3️⃣ Focus on smooth, relaxed movement and steady breathing.

If the area feels lighter or easier afterwards, that’s a positive response.

Effective movement supports the body rather than punishing it.
Gentle, well-chosen movement helps improve circulation, joint health and confidence without overload.

📞 If you’ve been avoiding movement because you think it has to be intense to help, get in touch with the clinic.

Does your body feel different from left to right? That imbalance matters more than you think.

Many people notice it quietly.
One shoulder feels tighter. One hip moves more easily. One side feels stronger, steadier, or more reliable.

Because there’s often no sharp pain, it’s easy to ignore.
But left-to-right differences are rarely random.

Our bodies are designed to move symmetrically most of the time. When one side consistently does more work than the other, it changes how load is shared through joints, muscles and connective tissue.

Over time, this can lead to stiffness, fatigue or recurring discomfort, often on the side that’s working harder.

Something many people don’t realise is holding them back:

Long-term compensation from one side doing more of the job.

This often develops after past injuries, repetitive work, dominant-side habits or changes in activity.
The body adapts to keep you moving, but that adaptation comes at a cost.

Common signs include:
• one side tiring faster
• uneven wear in shoes
• stiffness that always shows up on the same side
• feeling “crooked” or twisted during movement

These are early clues, not flaws.

✅ A small win you can try today:

1️⃣ Stand in front of a mirror.
2️⃣ Slowly raise both arms overhead at the same time.
3️⃣ Notice if one side moves differently, feels tighter, or finishes sooner.

This simple check can reveal patterns your body has been quietly managing.

Imbalance doesn’t mean something is wrong.
It means your body has adapted.
The earlier those patterns are understood, the easier they are to address.

Maximise your recovery and performance with AxIT Strength Testing.
Many people assume recovery or performance plateaus happen because they’re not doing enough.

But often, the real issue isn’t effort. It’s imbalances that aren’t visible until they’re measured.
You might feel generally strong, active or capable, yet still notice:
• one side fatiguing faster than the other
• recurring niggles that don’t fully settle
• slower progress despite consistent training
• hesitation or lack of confidence returning to activity

These are often signs that certain muscles are doing more work than they should, while others aren’t contributing enough. AxIT Strength Testing uses advanced technology to assess strength, control and side-to-side differences. It gives us objective information about how your body is really functioning, not just how it feels.

Something many people don’t realise is influencing how their body performs:
The body is very good at compensating.
It will find ways to keep you moving, even if some muscles are underperforming.
Over time, these compensations can slow recovery, increase strain, or limit performance without obvious pain.

🩵 Recovery and performance improve when training is targeted, not guessed.
Objective testing helps guide smarter decisions and more personalised support.

📞 If you’d like to learn more about AxIT Strength Testing or see whether it’s right for you, get in touch with the clinic.
We’re happy to talk through your goals and help you find the right next step. You can get in touch by giving us a call on (03) 5221 1877 or book online at kardiniaclinic.com.au.

If your shoulder clicks during certain movements, here’s what might be happening.

A clicking or popping sound in the shoulder can feel worrying, especially when it happens during everyday movements like reaching overhead, lifting, or rotating the arm.
For many people, this clicking isn’t about damage. It’s often about how the shoulder is being controlled.

The shoulder relies on a group of muscles around the shoulder blade to guide smooth movement.
When these muscles aren’t working together well, the ball of the shoulder joint can shift slightly as the arm moves. That small change in movement is often what creates the click.

🔍 Signs many people overlook:
Reduced shoulder blade control.

This often shows up as:
• clicking when lifting or lowering the arm
• fatigue around the shoulder with simple tasks
• tightness through the front of the shoulder
• a feeling of instability or “catching”
• symptoms that come and go rather than staying constant

Because it isn’t always painful, it’s easy to ignore.

✅ A small win you can try today:
1️⃣ Sit or stand tall with your arms relaxed by your sides.
2️⃣ Gently draw your shoulder blades down and slightly back, without squeezing hard.
3️⃣ Hold for 5 seconds, then relax.
4️⃣ Repeat 8–10 times, keeping your breathing relaxed.

This can help improve shoulder positioning and reduce unnecessary movement during arm activity.

🩵 Clicking doesn’t always mean something is wrong, but it is useful information.

Early support can help improve control, reduce strain, and prevent the shoulder from becoming more sensitive over time.

📞 If your shoulder has been clicking or feeling unsettled and you’d like help understanding why, get in touch with the clinic.

💭 Returning to routine is easier when your body feels supported.

After a break, getting back into routine can feel harder than expected.
Early mornings, longer days, more sitting, more standing, or a return to regular activity can quickly highlight how your body is really feeling.

Many people notice stiffness, fatigue or tension during this transition.
Not because anything new has gone wrong, but because their body is being asked to do familiar things again after a change in pace.

This is often when small movement restrictions or imbalances become more noticeable.

🔍 A narrow issue many people don’t realise they have:

A body that’s lost some movement variety during the break.

Changes in routine often mean less regular movement, more sitting, or doing the same positions for longer periods.
When the body isn’t exposed to variety, certain joints and muscles stiffen, and others take on extra work.

The result can be:
• feeling stiff at the start of the day
• fatigue earlier than usual
• tension in the neck, back or hips
• needing longer to “warm up”

✅ A small win you can try today:

1️⃣ Set a timer once during your day to pause for 2 minutes.
2️⃣ Gently move your spine, hips and shoulders through comfortable ranges.
3️⃣ Focus on smooth, relaxed movement rather than stretching hard.

This simple reset can help your body adapt more comfortably as routine returns.

🩵 Support doesn’t always mean doing more.

It often means helping your body move well so routine feels manageable again.

📞 If returning to routine is highlighting areas of stiffness or discomfort, this can be a helpful time to book in to see an osteopath, myotherapist, or for a remedial massage.
These appointments can support your body as it readjusts back to your usual level of activity and help you move forward feeling more comfortable and confident.

💭 What is Remedial Massage and why do people love it?

Remedial massage isn’t just about relaxation.
It’s a targeted, hands-on approach that focuses on specific muscles and tissues that are tight, overworked or not moving well.

Many people book remedial massage because their body feels heavy, tense or fatigued, even if they’re not in constant pain.
This is often a sign that certain muscles are working overtime to compensate for posture, repetitive work, stress or old injuries.

Remedial massage works by helping those tissues relax, improving circulation and allowing the body to move more freely again.

🔍 Signs many people overlook:

Low-grade muscle tension that never fully switches off.

This often shows up as:
• tight shoulders or neck by the end of the day
• a dull ache rather than sharp pain
• muscles that feel “knotted” or heavy
• feeling better briefly after rest, then tight again

Because this tension builds gradually, it’s easy to ignore until it starts affecting movement, sleep or energy levels.

✅ A small win you can try today:

1️⃣ Take a moment to notice where your body feels tense right now.
2️⃣ Gently press or massage that area for 30–60 seconds while breathing slowly.
3️⃣ Notice if the area feels warmer, softer or easier to move afterwards.

This simple awareness can help you recognise where your body is holding unnecessary tension.

🩵 Remedial massage is often part of a bigger picture.

It can support recovery, improve movement and help your body feel more balanced and comfortable.

Summer often means lighter footwear. Thongs, slides and sandals become an everyday choice, especially in warmer weather.
But not all thongs support your feet in the same way.

Many people don’t realise that flat, unsupportive footwear can quietly contribute to foot fatigue, heel discomfort, calf tightness or even knee and lower back aches.
This is because the muscles in the feet have to work much harder to stabilise each step.

Over time, that extra workload can travel up the body.

Archie Thongs are designed with built-in arch support, helping the foot stay in a more neutral position while walking. For some people, this can reduce strain through the feet and lower limbs during everyday activities like errands, walking the dog or spending time on your feet.

A healthier year doesn’t start with doing more. It starts with moving better.

At the start of a new year, many people feel pressure to exercise more.
More workouts. More steps. More intensity.

But for many bodies, the issue isn’t a lack of effort.
It’s that movement patterns aren’t working as well as they could.

When strength, mobility or control are limited, the body compensates.
That can make exercise feel harder than it should and increase fatigue or discomfort during everyday activities.

From an exercise physiology perspective, quality of movement always comes before quantity.
When the right muscles are doing the right job, movement becomes more efficient, comfortable and sustainable.

🔍 A common problem many people don’t realise they have:

Doing more activity on top of poor movement patterns.

This often shows up as:
• soreness that lingers longer than expected
• feeling tired quickly during simple exercises
• avoiding certain movements or loads
• needing excessive recovery after activity

These are signs the body may need better strength balance, control or movement strategy.

✅ A small win you can try today:
1️⃣ Pick one exercise or daily movement you do often, such as squats or stair climbing.
2️⃣ Slow it down and focus on control, alignment and steady breathing.
3️⃣ Aim for smooth, even movement rather than speed or repetitions.

This simple shift can reduce strain and help the body move more efficiently.

🩵 A healthier year doesn’t require pushing harder.

It requires moving with better strength, control and confidence.

📞 If you would like support in building strength, improving movement quality and exercising safely, book in with our exercise physiologist.
