The Anne Dawborn Bequest: Where It All Began
In 2015, a 6-month pilot arts-in-health project at the Royal Hobart Hospital changed everything. Thanks to the Anne Dawborn Bequest, older patients experiencing dementia and delirium were offered music, visual arts, storytelling and creative moments that supported their wellbeing.
That pilot led to the founding of Inscape Tasmania.
Anne Dawborn believed in the therapeutic power of the arts. As an occupational therapist, teacher and lifelong artist, she inspired others to create and connect. Her legacy continues through Inscape’s work across Southern Tasmanian hospitals, where artists and musicians now support patients, families and staff every week.
Since then, Inscape has grown into a vital creative health program - offering bedside music, artist residencies, public performances and storytelling that reach hundreds of patients, families and staff across Southern Tasmania each year.
