🙏🏾RACISM RESEARCH: WOULD YOU LIKE TO PARTICIPATE?
We have been successful in securing funding from the Tasmanian Government as part of their Social Cohesion Grants program, which has been auspiced by the Royal Bengal Club Tasmania Inc.- RBCT. This grant has been provided to conduct a detailed research project on the prevalence of racism within Tasmania. This project will use different research methodologies to capture data to develop a detailed report for the government.

Perhaps you are aware, racism can be experienced by a broad section of the community. Its impacts are profound at the professional and personal level, and often affects the social cohesion of the community in which it occurs. National research identifies that the impact of racism on the mental health of its victims is undeniable and that the flow on economic cost and loss of productivity represents a significant burden to society.

Sadly, in Tasmania, there have many documented instances of racially motivated violence in recent years. Unfortunately, there has been limited specific and detailed research conducted in Tasmania into the prevalence of racism within the State, which this research aims to rectify.

🏗️It was good to catch up with Matt today to share the excitement of this $40 million development.

🙏🏾Matt also shared how the City’s planning process had great guidance, support and opportunity to amend, receive advice and work with developers.

😊This development is a great show of confidence in the Hobart CBD and brings significant community benefits to this part of Hobart (landscaping, pocket park public space, pedestrian access from Harrington Street to Centrepoint shopping centre).

🏙️Hobart is not “anti-development”, and this follows on from Procreate’s move into the CBD at the top end of Collins Street, bringing major new developments at either end of Hobart, and a new building for 56 multiple dwellings, business and professional services, and food services for 20 Barrack Street, which are now on being advertised for.

👏🏾Hobart is very supportive of DA’s done right. Construction is to commence around February 2025.

🛋️ Youth Homelessness Matters Day is Wednesday 17 April 2024 🛋️

An event will be held in the Elizabeth St Mall, 11am to 1pm.

Community partners Colony 47, Youth Arts & Recreation Centre, City of Hobart and the UTAS Homelessness ColLAB are joining forces to ask the question, ‘Does youth homelessness matter in Tasmania?’

The event aims to raise awareness of youth homelessness in Tasmania and the early intervention approaches needed to prevent it.

There will be couches that have been decorated by young people in our community. We’re not sure if they’ll be comfy but they’ll definitely be conversation starters.

There will also be information about an Australia-wide petition calling for a National Standalone Child and Youth Homelessness and Housing Plan.

Housing and Homelessness Portfolio Chair Cr Mike Dutta shares a role of the Housing and Homelessness Portfolio Committee is to support community engagement activities. Everyone is welcome, come along to sit, chat and connect and raise awareness of child and youth homelessness in Tasmania.
