πŸ‡βœ¨ Fighting Sands Race Day – Honouring a Legacy βœ¨πŸ‡
Kempsey Race Club, in proud collaboration with the NSW Veteran Boxers Association Inc, Dunghutti Elders Council Aboriginal Corporation, and Durri Aboriginal Corporation Medical Service, invites the local and wider communities to the Fighting Sands Race Day β€” a celebration of sport, culture, and enduring legacy.
πŸ“… Saturday 29th November 2025
πŸ“ Kempsey Race Club
🏁 First race at 1:50 PM
🐎 Six-race program – each race named in honour of a Sands Brother
This special event organised by Todd Dotti is dedicated to the Nation’s first family of sport β€” the Fighting Sands, professional boxers from Kempsey who rose to prominence in the 1940s and 50s. Proud descendants of William Bupoo Ritchie of Burnt Bridge, the Sands Brothers are icons of Australian boxing and national sporting history.
As individuals and as a family, their feats have never been surpassed or by-passed. They returned to Kempsey during their careers, celebrated by family and friends, and remained deeply connected to the Macleay Valley.
Kempsey has a rich history of sporting excellence, but the Fighting Sands hold a unique place as leaders of prominence, family strength, and cultural pride. Their name continues to echo through sporting history β€” and this Race Day is our chance to honour that legacy.
πŸŽ‰ Join us on Dunghutti Country to celebrate the Fighting Sands, reconnect with community, and enjoy a powerful day of racing and remembrance.
