Meet Mr. Anupam Modi, a consultant surgeon at Rotorua Hospital, who along with colleagues and support staff has transformed breast cancer care in the district. By coordinating mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies in one visit, and booking theatre slots in advance, his team minimises waiting times and reduces the psychological burden on patients.

Mr. Modi emphasises mental well-being alongside physical recovery: “Psychology is very important. You don’t want the patient to be physically cured but a mental wreck.” They also explore less traumatic alternatives to mastectomies, aiming to enhance patients' quality of life.

Big mihi to Mr. Modi and his colleagues for their vital mahi and innovation that's helping speed-up patient access to cancer treatment. ✨

Client photo after hair transplant this is 3 days post surgery.

The client had 3 sessions of Dr Vodder manual lymphatic drainage to prepare for surgery.

Unbelievable to see hardly any swelling forehead or the grafts themselves. Normally a large area would be swollen, forehead, face and eyes.
This is known as the client had previously had a hair transplant years ago with no lymphatic drainage before or after and had significant swelling forehead a week or more.

The power of medical lymphatic drainage before surgery. A huge difference to recovery. Pre surgery lymphatic drainage is not well known the more knowledgeable by surgeons would make a definitive difference to recovery.

Research also shows that lymphatic drainage has been shown to increase hair growth this is still in early stages of research but is a significant benefit for hair transplant.
Client extremely happy and has continued to use lymphatic drainage for all his surgeries pre and post.
Surgeon approved before any post sessions of lymphatic drainage can be performed.

Always seek a medical trained lymphatic drainage therapist for any surgical related recovery if lymphatic drainage is to be a pre and post recovery program.

Winter is the perfect time to look after inflammatory disease, especially if a build up of inflammation has occurred and restricts wound healing. a good basic video on wound healing.

Everyone has experienced falling over and scrapping their hands or knees. Ever wondered what happens in our bodies when we hurt ourselves?

This video from WEHI.TV’s Dr Drew Berry shows the moment a skin wound is created, inflammation sets in and the immune system starts fighting infection.

Inflammation is the body’s natural response to infection, disease and tissue damage.

We’re all familiar with inflammation – the redness, swelling and warmth that set in. These symptoms are caused by increased blood flow to the injured area.

These symptoms alert and attract immune cells that immobilise the injured or infected tissue to reduce damage and infection, and to help repair tissue damage.

Inflammation is a key research area at WEHI, and we’re working on ways to better diagnose, treat and prevent inflammatory diseases including coeliac disease, bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, malaria, lupus and more.

Professional cycling l***a swelling and groin swelling. A very interesting article on the topic of seating position and the importance of the correct seat for women and men during professional cycling. The article also explains about groin oedema as a persistent problem with women but men can have similar issues.

When I first started out in lymphatic drainage I was a sports injury therapist and worked with a lot of road and some track cycling. Now I understand how important the groin is and to reduce the amount of swelling and how lymphatic drainage by a trained therapist in lymphatic issues can make a huge difference.

As we head close to the start of the Tour de France it’s just one of those injuries that can plague a rider.

A passage from the article highlighting lymphatic dysfunction.

“The consensus among doctors and experts is that long-term swelling of the l***a (usually the l***a majora) is a result of pressure, or crush, injuries. Ge***al tissue is rich in nerves, blood vessels, and lymph vessels—tiny, thin-walled, vein-like structures that drain the area of lymphatic fluid. Repeated, prolonged pressure can damage this neurovascular network, to various effects. When the lymph vessels get crushed, they stop draining fluid, which causes persistent swelling. If blood vessels are crushed, they starve the area of blood, a process known as ischemia, which can eventually cause tissue to die. The body then attempts to heal by creating new tissue—essentially scar tissue—that’s thicker, drier, less elastic, and less efficient at exchanging blood and fluids. Over time, this process repeats until the flesh is permanently enlarged. The experts I spoke to agreed that the primary mechanism of vulval swelling among cyclists is lymphatic damage, exacerbated by the formation of scar tissue.”

The Tour de France is not far away, a great motivation to get on a bike and help your lymphatic system.

This lets highlight the many ways cycling can help patients with lymphoedema ⬇️

✅ Promotes Lymphatic Fluid Movement:
Cycling, like other forms of exercise, helps to pump lymph fluid through the lymphatic system, moving it away from swollen areas.
✅ Muscle Activity:
The muscle contractions during cycling help to move lymph fluid, which can reduce fluid buildup and swelling.
✅ Weight Management:
Cycling can help individuals maintain a healthy weight, which can reduce swelling and improve overall well-being.
✅ Improved Circulation:
Exercise, including cycling, can improve overall circulation, which is beneficial for lymphoedema management.
✅ Joint Flexibility and Strength:
Cycling can help maintain and improve joint flexibility and strength, which are important for overall health and function.
✅ Mental Health:
Regular physical activity, like cycling, can reduce stress and improve mood, which is essential for managing a chronic condition like lymphoedema.

AND has the added bonus of helping to save the planet 🌍🤩🚴🏻‍♂️

June/July the time of the year when chronic disease inflammation flares up and takes hold. Constant colds, flu, lack of exercise and sleep all have a negative effect on our immunity.

Always a good time to have a maintenance check with any post surgery especially cancer surgery, swelling can creep up and may not be noticed until it becomes apparent and not going down.

A trained lymphatic drainage lymphoedema therapist can help control post surgical swelling and care.

Help your health book in for a lymphatic drainage session by a Dr Vodder therapist, a great way naturally to reduce accumulative inflammation.

Know someone that can benefit from a lymphatic drainage therapy session please share. Please note chronic inflammatory disease needs to be diagnosed by a medical specialist.

Treatments are always following protocols of lymphatic and medical diagnosis that can help control inflammation. Contact Teresa@themovementclinic.com or DM text mobile 📲 website Themovementclinic.com
