Australia's healthcare landscape is set for a significant transformation with the proposed Health Legislation Amendment (Modernising My Health Record – Sharing by Default) Bill 2024. This reform aims to enhance the My Health Record system by mandating the sharing of key health information, ensuring patients have better access to their health data.

In our submission, we acknowledged that the My Health Record had not been used as intended, and in many cases, health practitioners are not even using it. The lack of access to essential health data often exasperates those delivering healthcare services and healthcare consumers.

“This barrier impedes best clinical practice and creates unnecessary duplication and inefficiencies in healthcare. Although the current legislation focuses on pathology and diagnostic imaging service, AIDH envisages the expansion to other critical health data in the future, if this reform is successfully implemented and used as intended,” Anja Nikolic, CEO, AIDH said.

The Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) is proud to partner with the Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) to advance training in digital health.
Following the creation of the introductory eLearning course in digital health clinical safety, launching in 2025, we’re now developing on an intermediate training module to further empower the workforce.

� Why does this matter?
As healthcare increasingly relies on digital solutions, ensuring these technologies enhance patient care while minimising risks is essential. This training will equip professionals with practical knowledge of clinical risk management, deployment, and operational safety in digital health systems. This course will be tailored for health professionals or those directly involved in designing, developing, and implementing digital health solutions, including health informaticians, project managers, and clinical governance and risk management roles.

� Collaboration in Action
AIDH and the Agency aim to bring together experts from government, education, research, industry, and healthcare services to shape a nationally aligned program that prioritises patient safety.
