๐Ÿ“ฃ Joint Call for Equal Support for Allied Health Students

Several weeks in the making, today Monique Ryan MP, Sophie Scamps MP, Helen Haines MP and Senator David Pocock held a joint media conference calling on the Federal Government to include all allied health students in the Clinical Placement Payment Scheme, which gives students an additional $331 per week while on placement.

Organised by ASMIRT and supported by the Allied Health Practitioners Association, Naomi Gibson spoke on behalf of ASMIRT and the allied health sector. Also speaking were Patrick Tito, Clinical Educator in Radiography, Emma Dunnett a new Radiographer graduate, and students from other affected professions.

Held in the Mural Hall in Federal Parliament, the event attracted significant television, radio, print and online media attendance, which weโ€™re hoping will generate impactful coverage. This is part of an awareness push by ASMIRT to be followed up with meetings with stakeholders in the near future.

ASMIRT has today published preliminary results of the Student Clinical Placement Survey, which showed that three quarters of MRS students are not confident they can manage supporting themselves financially while undertaking their clinical placement.

๐Ÿ“… MRI Safety Week: 21โ€“25 July 2025

MRI Safety Week is recognised each year in the final week of July, as a time to reflect, educate, and raise awareness. This date marks the tragic 2001 death of a six-year-old boy, caused by a metal oxygen tank being pulled into the machine's powerful magnetic field.

๐Ÿ›‘ MRI safety is everyoneโ€™s responsibility. Just last week, a 61-year-old US man died after wearing a metal necklace into the MRI room. This tragedy demonstrates the relevance of MRI safety to this day.

To help prevent future incidents, weโ€™ve gathered key resources you can access and share:
