If you want to improve aerobic fitness and performance in 2026 without adding more training load, start with your breathing.

How you breathe affects oxygen delivery, carbon dioxide tolerance and cardiovascular efficiency.

When these systems work better, VO₂ max, endurance and recovery improve. Intentional breathwork is a simple but powerful tool for anyone focused on health optimisation and long term performance.

Summer is a reminder that self care does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with slowing down and giving your body and mind a little more space.

Thank you Racquel for your reflections. We are always humbled with each and every outcome and it is always especially rewarding knowing a child's life has been positively impacted thanks to functional medicine.

"As I sit here today just over a year after my 6month program finished with Rebecca for my son’s eczema I am filled with for much gratitude. This was a life changing program that made me as a mum confident in my sons health and understand the root cause and how to treat it correctly. The knowledge and support we recieved from the team at MFM was incredible Rebecca, our coach Jess and the lovely Clinic support girls. Our son is a different child because of you all, a child that doesn’t have to face the challenges of Eczema on a daily basis, it’s not only our family that sees the difference it’s our wider community aswell. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts & to everyone considering making the decision of the 6month Program I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you !"

As we move into January, many people notice their digestion feels a little off after the festive season. Before jumping to new supplements or restrictive plans, it can be helpful to look at the simplest foundations first.

One of the most overlooked is chewing. Chewing is a critical first step in digestion and how slowing down at meals can reduce bloating, support nutrient absorption and help your gut settle. It’s a gentle reset that supports your body as it finds its rhythm again.

If you’ve ever set a New Year’s resolution feeling motivated in January and frustrated by February, you’re not alone.

Most resolutions don’t fail because of a lack of discipline, they fail because they ask too much of motivation and not enough of structure.

Sustainable change comes from small, repeatable habits that fit into real life, not from big promises made in a moment of optimism.

When goals are clear, scaled back and supported by your routines and environment, they stop feeling like effort and start becoming part of how you live. This year, think less about doing more and more about doing what you can sustain.

As we step into January and set intentions for 2026, I want to once again invite you to consider one of the simplest but most impactful ways to protect your wellbeing: healthier boundaries.

When we say yes out of habit or obligation we often pay the price in energy, clarity and peace.

Learning to notice what truly serves you and where you need to pause can protect your focus and support your health all year long.

Better boundaries mean more space for what matters and less strain on your body and mind. If this feels timely, I explore it in more depth in my article https://mfm.au/blog/healthy-boundaries-the-real-cost-of-not-setting-them/

Words from Healthcaore Program Graduate Rebecca who worked with Lorraine and Bee, getting in depth care and root cause, functional medicine health investigation.

Rebecca, thank you so much for sharing your reflections.

"There is a certain amount of time and research that you go through trying to work out what is the best option to move forward with health issues. After countless hours spent with doctors, specialists, and endless googling, I ended up at Melbourne Functional Medicine. I have to say, my experience with Melbourne Functional Medicine has been incredibly positive and genuinely life-changing. From the moment I walked in, I felt supported, listened to, and treated as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms. The team took the time to understand my health history in detail, asked a million meaningful questions, and created a personalised plan that actually made sense for my lifestyle and issues. Their approach is warm, professional, and deeply informative, combining evidence-based functional testing with practical, real-world strategies that helped me finally see progress where nothing else had worked.
What really stood out was the level of care and follow-through. Instead of quick appointments and generic advice, they offered ongoing guidance, accountability, and education, helping me to take control of my own health. I came away feeling clearer, healthier, and more confident in my ability to take over my health more than I have in years. I highly recommend Melbourne Functional Medicine to anyone looking for a compassionate, comprehensive, and truly effective approach to wellness. They are amazing. Special thanks goes to Lorraine and Bee what wonderful caring people your are, Thanks so much"

We think it’s fair to say that we all understand the premise behind a New Year’s Resolution – we identify an area (or two) of our lives where we’d like to make improvement and see positive change.

While this is great in theory often it’s not a sticky way for people to make a change. It feels a bit like a trap, doesn’t it? You’ve made a public declaration and now, no matter what, you must stick to it.

Any wavering and that just looks (and feels) like a failure. So when it comes to goal setting and optimising, what do you do?

Christmas is meant to be a season of connection, but for many people it quietly becomes a season of over-giving. Between family, social events and end of year pressure, our own needs often slip to the bottom of the list.

One of the most supportive things you can do for your health right now is set clear, kind boundaries. They are not selfish. They protect your energy and help you actually enjoy the season.
