When it comes to change, ALL OR NOTHING … isn’t it.

We see it time and time again.

Extreme (and plain weird) dieting protocols, extreme training regimes don’t work in the long run. Sure, you will see a sudden change but that change won’t last, and usually will plateau very quick.

We aren’t in the business of making rapid all or nothing changes to our clients that will bounce back as soon as you look at a piece of cake 👀🎂

You don’t have to fear food….
You don’t have to train 5 to 7 days a week….
You don’t need to always be in a calorie deficit…

You don’t need such a gruelling process.

At LTL we like to check your lifestyle factors first and foremost, food quality, meal times, training age, and overall strength and consistency before we even consider going into a deficit.

Ultimately in the beginning it will take longer but it will be worth it when you aren’t living in a yo-yo mindset for the next 5, 10, or 20 years anymore.

Everybody wants to have a better looking physique, but what if it came down to how well you can squeeze your muscles?

Your goal to lose weight or gain muscle will be made a lot easier if you have better mind to muscle connection. If you can’t “feel a muscle” you probably need to start building that connection when you’re standing or sitting just at home and try activating it. It will take time, but it can happen.

Lifting heavy is great but not without tension or good form - this is where injuries, bad habits and poor posture can develop.

Your body composition will do a lot better with more muscle 💪

This is in 2020 when she came to LTL as a client she was lost, confused with her health and fitness needed shaping! Through ups and downs she was focussed and determined to keep going losing kilos each week gave her confidence in herself again that she wasn’t stuck!

Stop Babying Your Back — Start Building It

Let’s be real: we speak to people every week who are scared to feel their backs during exercise. And honestly, I don’t blame them. They’ve been injured. They’ve been told to “be careful” or to “just rest.” But fear-based advice doesn’t build stronger, more able bodies.

Here’s a story that says it all:
A woman I recently spoke to has been struggling with severe back pain. She’s also lost a lot of body weight (21kg to be exact in 17 weeks!!) and muscle due to appetite loss while taking Mounjaro (a weight-loss drug).

She’s working with a physio who told her:
✅ Just walk 20 minutes a day (10 minutes AM + PM)
❌ Don’t use gym equipment — it’s too risky

She ended walking to an hour a day because she wanted more… but her back still hurts.

Now, let’s unpack this:
🤝First off: Losing 20kg is huge — that’s like dropping a 20kg weighted plate off your spine every single day. Massive.
🤝Walking: Great for circulation, joint fluid, disc health. We love it.
🚩But ONLY walking? That’s where it falls apart.
🚩Telling someone to avoid the gym completely? That’s how you keep someone weak and scared.

As a coach, I’ve seen it too many times — clients afraid to move because they think they’ll break. That’s not protection. That’s programming fear into their bodies.

Here’s the truth:
If you’re scared to move, you’re more likely to get injured — not less. Why? Because you haven’t built the strength, awareness, or confidence to move well.

You’ve been told to sit still instead of move.

Injuries need rehab — not restriction.
Discomfort needs guidance — not avoidance.
And your back needs movement — not babysitting.

Coaches, your job isn’t to coddle people. It’s to educate them.
To show them why strength and mobility matters.

And how building trust in their body again is one of the most powerful tools they have access to for free.

You are not fragile.
Your body is not broken.
You’ve just been told the wrong story — and it’s time to rewrite it.

Excuse the French… yes, calories matter - but understanding your hormones matter far more.

When you eat carbs, your body releases insulin to manage your blood sugar. But if insulin is constantly spiked (from poor food choices and/or frequent snacking), it not only reaches a threshold BUT it will store more fat. Not to mention you end up craving more sugar, and struggle with energy— and yes, even if you’re “eating less.”

Focusing only on “calories in vs out” as a woman keeps you stuck in guilt + restriction.

Understanding insulin and food sets you free. It teaches you how to fuel your body, not punish it.

Because food isn’t the enemy—it’s your power.

Walking is such a simple thing to do for both fat loss and weight management, but also as a preventative health marker against so many chronic health issues we face today (think heart attack, diabetes, stroke, and anxiety and depression).

Walking is free! So why do so many people struggle to get there steps up?

We see a lot of desk workers struggle to hit step targets or people are just not making an effort to push themselves and falling into their old comfort patterns. We will always make slow and gradual step targets and increases for these clients help pave an easier path to the best step target for them (ideally 7k to 10k)

Also you might be relying on motivation (which we will all tell you won’t last), if you can just get up and about for just 10 minutes a day (start small) you might find yourself enjoying the walk so much 30 minutes goes by 🙏💅

At Ladies That Lift, you guessed it we lift!

And a big focus for our seasoned members in their winter blocks are going to be nailing the basics, and getting really strong during the cooler/cold months.

The winter months are the perfect time to gain muscle and push the dial on lifting more because those extra calories really do help lift more!

Muscle gets more and more important as us females age from our teens, and 20s to our 30s to reduce bone density loss, and our 40s as we start to head to menopause, and then our 50s and 60s where we are post menopausal. Strength, muscle helps with all of it.
