🎶 Fiona Horne has lived with tinnitus since the 1990s—a condition that became part of her life during her years as a touring musician. As the lead singer of Def FX, she was constantly surrounded by high-decibel sound, from blaring stage monitors to loud club gigs, all without the hearing protection we now know is essential. Over time, that relentless exposure to noise took its toll, leaving her with a persistent ringing in her ears that she still navigates every day.
Reflecting on her experience, Fiona shares:
"I’ve lived with tinnitus since the 1990s, learning to navigate its challenges daily. Tinnitus Awareness Week is crucial in highlighting the profound impact tinnitus has on lives. I’ve redefined silence as a feeling rather than a sound, and I’m committed to supporting this campaign to bring more awareness and understanding to the condition."
Despite the challenges, Fiona has found ways to adapt, redefining silence and learning to manage tinnitus while continuing her creative pursuits. In her latest Instagram video, she opens up about her journey, and some time ago shared her story on 60 Minutes, helping to raise awareness about hearing health, prevention, and the realities of living with tinnitus.
