🧢 Introducing toy of the month: Potato Head 👞

We love using Potato Head in therapy sessions because he’s not only fun, he’s also a great resource for learning and skill development!

🎯 How we use Potato Head in therapy:

👀 Understanding body parts – “Where’s Potato Head’s 👂?”

✋ Fine motor skills – pushing the 👃 or 👓 into place builds hand strength and coordination.

💭 Following instructions - put on the blue hat 🧢!

🤝 Turn-taking & shared play – taking turns to decorate and build the potato head together!

🏴‍☠️ Creativity & storytelling – let’s make a “pirate Potato” for our pretend play!

✨ Speech Pathology Week 2025! ✨

This week we have been celebrating the role of Speech Pathology in helping children find their voice, connect with others and thrive in everyday life! 🗣️ 💭

At Blended Therapy Services our Speech Pathologists work in our transdisciplinary model, collaborating with Occupational Therapists, Developmental Educators, Social Workers and Allied Health Assistants. 🤝

Together we create consistent strategies across environments and with the child’s care team so children are supported to communicate, play and learn every day. 🏡

From supporting with their first words, using AAC, and building language skills, we can build connection and empower little people to be heard and understood. ☺️

In celebration of Book Week we are here to share our favourite ways to use books! 📚

😌 Emotional Regulation: Characters can model feelings and coping strategies, helping children name and support feelings.

💬 Social Skills: Stories around friendships, conversations, problem solving!

🎨 Concept Learning – From colours to directions books are great tools to build receptive language skills!

😃✨ Introducing Emotions Duplo ✨😮

This emotions Lego Duplo set has been a staple in our therapy sessions!

These colourful, expressive characters are a great tool to explore emotions like happy, sad, angry, worried through interactive fun, hands-on play.

🎯 How we use them in therapy:

🧠 Emotional Literacy
• Use the characters the name and express feelings
• Sort feelings into categories (happy, sad, worried)
• Talk about the facial features and body cues
• Can you copy and imitate the faces?

💬 Communication Skills
• Support two-word phrases or full sentences: “She’s sad,” “He needs help”
• Use AAC to label or comment on feelings

👐 Fine Motor Development
• Stacking, pulling apart, and matching faces = great for hand strength and dexterity!
• Switching accessories helps build coordination and planning
• Promotes bilateral hand use during structured play tasks

🎭 Pretend Play & Social Thinking
• Act out real-life scenarios: “What happens when a friend takes your toy?”

The NDIS has expanded the Early Childhood Intervention age range to 0–9 years — and we’re thrilled to grow with it! 💛

Blended Therapy Services will now support children up to 9 years of age under our Early Childhood Intervention program.

✔️ Therapy is still delivered through our trusted transdisciplinary key worker model
✔️ We continue to focus on holistic support for children and families
✔️ If specialist support outside of our team is needed, your keyworker will guide you through engaging the right professionals 🤝
