Yvonne’s connection to Calvary runs deep. After her mother spent time and later passed away at a Calvary Aged Care home, Yvonne felt inspired to become involved herself. She generously shared her talents through knitting and crocheting.

Later, while caring for her husband at Calvary Elanora Aged Care and visiting him daily, Yvonne’s bond with the community continued to grow. Recognising her warmth and dedication, the team at Elanora encouraged her to formally join the community, a decision she embraced wholeheartedly, with the full support of her four sons.

Today, two generations of Yvonne’s family call Elanora home, making her connection truly special. Yvonne remains actively involved, regularly knitting beautiful creations to sell, particularly during the Christmas season, with all proceeds supporting our Lifestyle Team.

Thank you, Yvonne, for the care, creativity, and heart you continue to share with our community. Visit our website to learn more about aged care at Calvary Elanora: https://ow.ly/Ccxk50Y1tvK

Calvary Oaklands Aged Care resident Graham loves spending time in the garden, carefully watering the plants and helping them thrive. 🌿

Recently, Graham and other residents enjoyed a fresh harvest of tomatoes and lettuce in salads and sandwiches; a simple pleasure that supports wellbeing and connection.

This year, our garden has grown with new beds and more variety, including tomatoes, basil, parsley, strawberries, bok choy, radishes, eggplants, cucumbers and pumpkins. Many of the plants have been generously donated and cared for by residents themselves.

These shared moments reflect what matters most to us as an aged care provider; that our residents feel valued, connected and never alone. Visit our website to learn more about aged care at Calvary Oaklands: https://ow.ly/IjL450XZttV

At Calvary Brighton Aged Care, a simple idea has changed how people connect.

When resident Halina arrived, not being able to speak English was confronting. Her first question was, “Who here speaks Polish?”
Hearing a warm greeting in her own language from Clinical Care Coordinator Amanda helped her feel welcome straight away.

Halina then suggested adding small national flags to staff name badges to show the languages they speak. Staff embraced the idea, and it quickly spread across the home.

Today, those flags spark conversations every day. Residents find common ground with staff, feel more understood, and build trust more easily. The idea has even grown into informal language-sharing activities, with residents learning basic words from staff.

It’s a reminder that feeling safe and at home often starts with being understood. Visit our website to learn more about aged care at Calvary Brighton: https://ow.ly/UJTr50XUNH9

Meet Paddles, one of our much-loved volunteer visitors at Calvary John James Hospital. 🐾

Alongside her owner, Penny, Paddles visits each week to bring comfort and calm to patients, families, and staff, especially in our Day Surgery unit, where her gentle presence helps ease nerves during what can be a stressful time.

We’re incredibly grateful to Penny for generously giving her time and sharing Paddles with our community. Together, they show how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Recently, residents from our Calvary Haydon Aged Care home visited Radford College to take part in a hands-on clay workshop led by students. The workshop saw residents exercise their hands, unleash their creativity, and engage their minds, while building meaningful connections with younger generations.

As well as being great fun, activities like these support fine motor skills, encourage self-expression, and foster a sense of achievement, nurturing both wellbeing and social connection. Inspired by the vision of Sister Liz West, who hoped such workshops would help residents maintain and develop their fine motor skills, it was wonderful to see her idea come to life.

Thank you, Radford College, for welcoming our residents so warmly and fostering meaningful intergenerational relationships. Visit our website to learn more about what makes aged care at Calvary Haydon so special: https://ow.ly/zbbk50XSKVJ

At Calvary, retirement living is about more than a place to live, it’s about feeling at home and living life your way.

Our retirement communities across Australia support independence, choice and connection. They’re welcoming places where residents can stay active, build friendships and enjoy peace of mind, knowing support is available when it’s needed.

As part of Calvary’s connected care model, you'll have access to home care and, in many locations, co-located residential aged care. This means residents can age in place with confidence as their needs change.

Guided by compassion and practicality, we’re creating communities where people feel supported, connected and empowered to live well.

Students from Wagga Wagga Public School Wagga Public School have unveiled a special artwork now proudly displayed in the palliative care unit at Calvary Riverina Hospital, helping to brighten the space for patients and their families.

Created by Year 3 and Year 4 students as part of the school’s enrichment program, the artwork Tranquil was developed through a collaborative process, with each student contributing ideas and artistic elements. The finished piece was designed to bring peace, colour and comfort during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Thank you to these amazing students for creating something truly priceless and for helping bring comfort, hope and joy to patients, families and staff. 💙

In 1885, six courageous Sisters of the Little Company of Mary left everything familiar behind to answer a call that would shape the future of care in Australia. Communication with home would be limited to letters, and the journey itself would take seven weeks by ship.

On 4 November 1885, they sailed into Sydney Harbour ready to serve the sick, the poor, and the dying, beginning with home nursing visits almost immediately after arrival.

From soup kitchens and night refuges to the opening of hospitals and services that continue today, their compassion and courage laid the foundations of what would become Calvary.

140 years later, that same spirit of care lives on, providing support to people and communities when they need it most. Discover the story behind Calvary and the legacy that continues today: https://ow.ly/HN9B50XQQ5z

Meet Kaye and Meg, teenage friends reunited through volunteering at Calvary Mater Newcastle.

In 1959, over 66 years ago, at the tender age of 15, Kaye and Meg met at TAFE Business School. After completing their course, they went their separate ways, armed with skills in typing and shorthand. Meg joined the Navy and had the chance to see the world, while Kaye put her clerical skills to work closer to home.

It wasn’t until just a few months ago that the two friends crossed paths again at Calvary Mater Newcastle. Kaye has been volunteering on Ward 4C and at the Auxiliary lolly table for over 21 years, while Meg recently began her volunteering journey at our Villas.

From their first meeting to reconnecting at the Mater, their friendship has come full circle in the most incredible way. 💙

At this year's Calvary Sandhill Aged Care Resident and Family Christmas Party, we were fortunate to share a very special experience.

As The Tassie Tenor, Joe Di Sario, filled the room with festive music, Sandhill resident Gerrard Marriott, who usually mobilises in a wheelchair, stood to share a beautiful moment on the dance floor with his wife, Kath. This dance was especially meaningful, as it was the first time in over two years that many had seen Gerry stand.

Today, as we celebrate Christmas, we also acknowledge that many people mark this season through different traditions that honour light and renewal. Whatever traditions you honour in December, moments like this reflect what unites us all: love, hope, and connection. 💙
