Diabetic retinopathy can damage your peripheral retina and central retina (macula). In the early stages of the disease, the blood vessels of the retina can either become blocked (leading shortage of blood) or leak (leading to deposition of blood and fluid in the retina). Both of these progressions can reduce vision and damage the retina.

How long will it take before you start to see clearly?

Patient recovery timeframes will differ depending on the procedure and other individual factors. Although most recipients enjoy visual freedom after laser treatment for eyes, recovery speed is determined by how well the patient heals and how much correction was required. Visual recovery for most laser eye surgery methods is usually swift, and postoperative outcomes are changeable on a patient-to-patient basis. More importantly, your recovery window will ultimately come down to the type of procedure.

Most cataracts develop as people get older, and usually, they are first noticed around the age of 60 years. The reason why cataracts occur is not yet known. One theory is that they are caused by a disturbance in the fluids and nutrients in the lens. In younger people, there are certain factors that can increase your risk of getting cataracts.

What is the role of our Clinical Optometrists and Orthoptists during your cataract consultation?

Our Clinical Optometrists and Orthoptists conduct the necessary scans that measure the length, width and depth of your eye, and the curvature of the cornea (front window) of the eye to help determine the suitable lens.

Their tests can also determine any nerve, corneal or macular diseases that may affect your suitability for certain treatments.
