Today we acknowledge that Australia Day holds different meanings for different people in our community.

We recognise and respect the ongoing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country, and we acknowledge the strength, resilience and cultures that have existed here for tens of thousands of years.

As a women’s health clinic, we are privileged to care for people from many backgrounds, and we remain committed to providing inclusive, culturally safe and compassionate healthcare for all.💕

Her Medical will be closed on Saturday January 24 Sunday January 25 and Monday 26 January 2026 for the Australia Day public holiday.

Australia Day through a women’s lens.............

Australia Day looks different depending on who you are and the story you carry. For many women, it is a day that sits at the intersection of pride, discomfort, resilience and responsibility.

Women have always carried communities through change. Long before modern systems existed, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women were knowledge holders, healers, midwives and protectors of culture. That strength did not disappear. It adapted. It endured.

Today, women continue to do the quiet heavy lifting. Raising families, building businesses, caring for elders, advocating for health, equality and safety. Often all at once. Australia Day offers a chance to acknowledge that unpaid, unseen work that keeps society stitched together.

At Her Medical, women’s health is not just about appointments and pathology forms. It is about recognising the lived experience of women in Australia. The hormonal load. The mental load. The cultural load. And meeting that with care that is informed, respectful and grounded in evidence.

Now what's not normal regarding period pain?

If you have persistent sharp, stabbing, dragging or burning pain that you find distressing, you do not have to put up with it! If you take a mild painkiller e.g., paracetamol and you're still feeling the pain, or you're too uncomfortable to go to school or work, talk to your doctor.

But what about blood flow?
We got you! If you have to change tampons or pads very often or you're regularly avoiding physical activities because you're bleeding so much, try to keep a record of a couple of cycles to show your doctor.

If you're worried about your period, tell your doctor. At Her Medical we see patients who expereince the above everyday! You're not alone🪻

Renee has been with Her Medical since day one, four years ago, coming over with Donna and helping build this clinic into what it is today. She is an exceptionally experienced women’s health nurse and the backbone of our team.

Patients love her. Doctors trust her. The clinic runs better because she is here.

She is also very funny and keeps the practice manager on her toes with one too many practical jokes, which we have mostly forgiven.

A brilliant nurse, a wonderful human, and a great friend. We are very grateful for you, Renee. Happy Birthday.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is a measure of the level of protection offered by a sunscreen. The SPF rating is based on how long it takes for intense ultraviolet radiation (specifically UVB) to burn skin with the sunscreen liberally applied compared to bare skin.

Cancer Council now recommends that Australians use a sunscreen that is SPF50 or SPF50+, broad-spectrum and water-resistant as one of the five forms of sun protection whenever the UV is 3 or above. SPF50 and SPF50+ sunscreens still need to be applied (and reapplied) liberally, as with any sunscreen.
