2025 IS THE YEAR OF THE SPIRAL!

This video shows the first case of the Shimowake Spiral CTR Injector used in Australia. This new instrument by Device Technology allows anyone to safely and consistently implant capsular tension rings using the "spiral CTR technique" with a single-handed delivery.

The big advantage of the "spiral CTR technique" is that it avoids any risk of the leading eyelet catching a fold of capsule. I find this technique is especially useful during lens exchanges with zonulopathy, where the capsular bag has aleady contracted and capsular folds are common.

People’s RepubICL of China! 🇨🇳

I was recently delighted to have the opportunity to travel to Guangzhou, China, for a Masterclass in ICL surgery. It was incredible to learn advice and pearls directly from the faculty of AIER Hospital, who are the highest volume ICL surgeons in the world.

Phakic IOLs (ICLs and Artiflex lenses) have numerous advantages for vision correction, including reversibility, the ability to treat extreme focus error, and no disturbance of the natural corneal shape. I’ve been a fan of these procedures for years, but after gaining so much new knowledge in China, I’m looking forward to doing lots more phakic IOL surgeries in 2025 for patients in the Gold Coast.
