October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It’s an important time for the National Breast Cancer Foundation to highlight why research is so crucial.

Breast cancer is the second most diagnosed cancer in Australia, with 9 people losing their lives every day. The only way to stop breast cancer deaths is by funding research – it improves our understanding of how breast cancer originates, grows, and spreads.

Did you know prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in Australian men? 20,000 men are diagnosed each year, and close to 3,300 die from prostate cancer.

Early prostate cancer does not usually have any symptoms. Symptoms of advanced prostate cancer can include:

〰️ Frequent urination or pain while urinating.
〰️ Blood in the urine or semen.
〰️ A weak urine stream.
〰️ Pain in the back or pelvis.
〰️ Weak legs or feet.

September is worldwide Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Join the Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia in encouraging all men over 50 (or over 40, with a family history of prostate cancer) to talk to their GP about testing, as part of their regular health check-up. And watch out for local landmarks lighting up blue, making a statement and as a reminder.

Make an appointment through DOCTO today if you have any concerns about prostate cancer symptoms. Link in bio.

With a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis related illness, Australians can’t wait to eliminate hepatitis.

Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are viruses that cause damage to your liver. They can be chronic, or lifelong. Without treatment, they can lead to liver disease or liver cancer.

Over 220,000 Australians are estimated to be living with hepatitis B. More than 55,000 of those are yet to be diagnosed and made aware of their infection. Over 115,000 Australians are estimated to be living with hepatitis C.

Covid-19 significantly interrupted hepatitis screening and monitoring. Ask for a hepatitis B and hepatitis C test when you go for your next routine blood tests. There is a cure for hepatitis C, and a vaccine and treatment options for hepatitis B.

July is Crazy Hair Day awareness month, to raise funds to support people living with cystic fibrosis (CF). Will you go crazy and hold your own Crazy Hair Day at school or work?

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition affecting one baby born every four days. It’s the most common inherited, life threatening condition affecting young Australians. CF is life shortening and there is no cure. For a child to be born with CF both parents must be genetic carriers for CF.

All money raised during Crazy Hair Day goes towards helping the Cystic Fibrosis Federation in Australia provide vital support to those suffering from cystic fibrosis.

Chronic pain affects 3.6 million Australians. This might be your partner, family member, friend, or work colleague. Over 50% of people living with chronic pain experience stigmatisation in the workplace.

National Pain Week helps raise awareness of chronic pain and the isolation it can create. It helps build understanding, connection, and empathy for those living with chronic pain.

The National Pain Survey found that nearly 70% of participants benefit from using telehealth. If you experience chronic pain, make a DOCTO appointment today. Link in bio.

Influenza is spread like any other airborne virus – through coughing, sneezing, and touching of contaminated surfaces. It is highly infectious and spreads easily through families, schools, and workplaces.

Every year in Australia there are hundreds of thousands of cases of influenza, mostly occurring over the winter months. The virus mutates quickly, and every year the strains are different, making it hard to develop an immunisation to prevent influenza.

Read more on the blog, about the importance of getting your flu shot this winter! Link in bio.

One organ and tissue donor can save up to 7 lives. DOCTO stands in support of DonateLife Week and the work of the Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA).

The OTA’s national program works to improve organ and tissue donation, so more Australians have access to a transplant.

DonateLife Week helps raise awareness of organ and tissue donation. It encourages more people to talk to their family and register to donate. Most Australians believe it’s important to be an organ and tissue donor, but only one in 3 are currently registered. There are currently over 1500 Australians waiting for organ transplant. Their lives depend on it.

It only takes one minute to register – it doesn’t matter how old you are, your medical history, lifestyle, country of origin, or how healthy you are. Why don't you register today?
