This patient presented with concerns regarding excess abdominal skin following significant weight loss.
On assessment, she was found to have abdominal skin laxity, with mild abdominal wall separation and localised adiposity.
Following consultation and discussion of treatment options, including a lower body lift, an extended abdominoplasty was performed to address excess skin and improve abdominal contour.
An extended abdominoplasty differs from a standard abdominoplasty in that the incision extends further toward the hips, allowing treatment of excess skin across a wider area of the lower abdomen and flanks.
Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss and is most appropriate when a patient is at a stable weight. The most appropriate surgical approach depends on individual anatomy, tissue quality and treatment goals, and can only be determined following a thorough consultation and clinical examination.
