It is a privilege to have taken on the role of President of the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians (ASBP). I acknowledge the outstanding contributions of Dr. Lauren Arnold, our outgoing President, and Dr. Katrina Tiller, Chair of Education, in transforming our training program over the last 3 years. This enhancement will enable breast physicians to acquire expertise through workplace-based training, creating confident and competent clinicians who can work in both the public and private sectors. I appreciate the commitment of my fellow board members and look forward to our collective efforts. Details on our training program, and the role of Breast Physicians are available at www.breastphysicians.org. I look forward to engaging with all my colleagues at upcoming conferences and events.

For all my GP colleagues, if you are wondering who to vote for in the “other” presidential election of 2024….I urge you to consider my friend Michael Wright for RACGP President. He has all the attributes to represent us as an experienced GP and lobbier, with expertise in many areas that will combine to make an excellent leader, following on from the exceptional job Nicole Higgins has done. Have a read of where he stands in the Ausdoc Q and A and don’t forget to vote!

Is negativity from GPs contributing to low interest in GP training? We asked all the RACGP presidential candidates to answer.

Spending a few days in Canberra at the BreastScreen Australia conference. It’s been 5 years since one of these was held and the discussions are fascinating. I’m also here with my colleagues from the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians spreading the word about our revamped training program and hoping to attract more people interested in breast medicine to do further training and complete their Fellowships.
