Dear Friends and Colleagues

We regret to inform you that Dr Paul Ng has passed away following a battle with illness.

Dr Ng was a talented Ophthalmologist at the peak of his career with a young family and had the world at his feet. He worked tirelessly for the people of the Gold Coast for more than two decades and will be very sorely missed.

Dr Ng established Outlook Eye Specialists 12 years ago and watched it grow into the largest ophthalmology group practice in the Gold Coast / Northern Rivers region.

Please bear with us as we grieve this incredible loss and work to provide alternative care options for his many patients. We very much appreciate your continued support.

Kind regards,

Dr Brett Drury – Cataract, Refractive, Corneal and Glaucoma Surgeon
Dr Stephen Godfrey – Cataract & Oculoplastic Surgeon / General Ophthalmologist
Dr John McCoombes – Cataract Surgeon / General Ophthalmologist

Is your smartphone turning you into a sleepless zombie? 🧟 📱

While it may seem like an innocent activity, reaching for your phone in bed could be affecting your sleep health more than you realise.

The blue light emitted by smartphones, TVs, computers and video game screens is the enemy of a good sleep.

It can confuse your body clock, overstimulate your brain and disrupt melatonin levels (the hormone that makes us feel drowsy). Blue light can also reduce the amount of time spent in slow-wave and REM sleep – two stages of sleep that are vital for cognitive functioning.
And if you're using your phone right before bed, this is all happening at a time when your body should be winding down.

Try these tips for a better sleep:

🤳 Switch off the screens at least 30 minutes before bedtime
🌙 Use ‘night time mode’ on your electronic devices
📵 Try to use the hour before bed to do relaxing activities that don’t involve devices with screens
💤 Stick to a consistent sleep, wake and meal schedule to help generate melatonin
