Many people assume stress only shows up as feeling anxious.

But often the body signals that the nervous system is under strain long before we recognise it mentally.

Just some of the common signs include-
• Feeling tired but unable to fully relax
• Difficulty switching off at night
• Ongoing muscle tension in the neck, shoulders, or jaw
• Headaches or digestive discomfort
• Feeling constantly “on edge”
• Overthinking or emotional reactivity

These patterns are very common, particularly in people who are used to coping and pushing through.

Because these symptoms seem manageable at first, they’re often ignored until the body reaches a point of burnout.

At that stage, it can take much longer to restore balance than if we respond earlier.

Just like maintaining a car, regular small adjustments tend to be much easier and quicker to deal with than waiting until the engine breaks down!

Supporting the body and nervous system early can make it easier to restore calm, reduce physical tension, and feel more settled overall.

Many people come to EMDR because they’re tired of knowing why they feel the way they do but still feeling stuck.

You might understand your anxiety, trauma, or emotional reactions logically…
Yet your body still responds as if the past is happening now.

I’ve been working with trauma for over a decade, including complex trauma (C-PTSD), and one thing I see repeatedly is this disconnect between insight and nervous system response.

EMDR works differently to talk therapy alone.
It helps the brain and nervous system reprocess experiences that were never fully resolved, so triggers lose their emotional charge rather than continuing to hijack the body.

Clients often notice:
• reduced anxiety and reactivity
• fewer intrusive thoughts
• improved emotional regulation
• better sleep and mental clarity
• a greater sense of safety and calm in their body

Where helpful, I also integrate acupuncture to support nervous system regulation, helping the body settle so EMDR work can be more comfortable, grounded, and effective.

If your nervous system feels stuck in survival mode despite years of trying to “work it out,” EMDR may offer a different path forward.

Many women are told their menopause symptoms are “just hormones.”
But research suggests there’s more to the story.

A recent systematic review found that women with a history of trauma are more likely to experience worsening anxiety, low mood, sleep issues, brain fog, and physical symptoms during perimenopause and menopause. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.xjmad.2024.100082

Why?
Although more research is needed, hormonal changes interact with the nervous system and stress response, the same systems affected by trauma. As hormones fluctuate, old patterns of anxiety, emotional overwhelm, or numbness can resurface, even if you felt you had “moved on” years ago.

This doesn’t mean you’re going backwards.
It means your body may need trauma-informed support, not just symptom management.

Support that focuses on calming the nervous system, alongside hormonal changes can make this transition feel safer, steadier, and more manageable.

This time of year can be busy, emotional, or both.
If you notice yourself feeling tired or overwhelmed, this is your reminder that rest doesn’t need to be justified. It's something that your nervous system needs to reset and recharge.

It’s only the 1st of December, but the “new year, new me” pressure is already creeping in.
A lot of people feel this internal push to fix everything fast before January, especially those wanting to heal old patterns or trauma so they can enter 2026 at their highest potential.

But here’s the truth:
Around 88% of resolutions fail by the 1st 2 weeks, and only 8% of people stick with them long-term.

Why?
There are many reasons, but a big one comes back to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Most people set goals from the top of the pyramid (growth, change, self-improvement) without strengthening the foundations first.

If your stress is high, sleep is off, or your nervous system is still in survival mode, your brain simply can’t create new habits. It’s not a lack of willpower, it’s biology. As a holistic health practioner, I can help support this side of things, but there are also other things to keep in mind.

A clear plan.
Many people think December is “too busy” to start.
But the truth is: the whole year is busy, and the sooner you put an achievable plan in place, the quicker you move out of fight/flight and into flow.

December actually gives you space to regulate, reset, and build the foundations that make change stick, before the rush of January expectations and falling back into old habits.

Furthermore, people who receive support are significantly more successful compared to those who go it alone.

If you want support to head into 2026 feeling clear, grounded, and capable, I have space this month for 1-on-1 sessions.

You deserve goals that feel achievable, not overwhelming.

When you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and your mind won’t switch off, what you really want is simple: to feel calm, clear, and in control again.

That’s why I combine acupuncture and hypnotherapy in the same session.

Acupuncture helps your body drop out of survival mode so you can breathe again.
And hypnotherapy helps your mind release the overthinking, self-judgment, and emotional heaviness you’ve been carrying.

Together, they create a deeper reset, the kind that feels like finally exhaling after holding your breath without realising it.

If burnout, stress, or anxiety have been building up lately (especially at this time of year!), this combination can help you feel regulated, grounded, and more like yourself again.

Hypnotherapy to overcome stress and anxiety.

I help people overcome stress and anxiety related issues in their lives though hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and CBT methods.

My clients are have often tried all of the ‘mainstream’ methods to heal from their problems without success and when they try hypnotherapy and the new tools they learn with me, as well as the ongoing support, they find they are able to move forward positively with their lives free from the restriction of stress and anxiety.

I am a member of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association and although my fees are very affordable, some clients with Private Health Insurance may be covered for some hypnotherapy services when they work with me.

I am also a qualified yoga teacher, massage therapist, mediation teacher and I study Buddhism, so I have a range of tools to further assist my clients.
