What is IBS?

Unfortunately, it’s a condition that many, knowingly or unknowingly suffers with on a daily basis. It can be debilitating and decrease ones quality of life. The symptoms includes bloating, cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhoea or constipation, just to mention a few.

This condition can lead to further complications and cause issues such as fatigue, insomnia, mood swings, joint pain, headaches and much more. This often comes down to nutrient deficiencies, poor nutrient absorption or a poor gut micro biome.

If you want to know more about IBS, click the link in my profile, go to my website and read my new blog “What is IBS and why does it seem to affect so many people”. This is an introduction as to why some develop IBS, what is causing it and a potential dietary strategy to help relieve the symptoms!

April is the month of IBS awareness. It is unfortunately a very common and debilitating condition that affects 10-15% worldwide with 2 out of 3 sufferers being females.

IBS has been associated with several other conditions such as dysbiosis, SIBO, food intolerances and gastro. The overall picture between severity and recurrence are closely related to gut health.

Food is one of the biggest triggers for symptoms to flare up, but this doesn’t always have to be the same for everyone. Some have a lower tolerance than others. Meaning that food most commonly known to cause the classic IBS symptoms might not be affecting some while others can’t even look at these foods and bloating begins.

IBS is very individualised. As a holistic practitioner, other factors such as lifestyle, stress, work/life balance, exercise, environmental factors and so much more are vital to assess, to understand the true underlying cause for YOUR IBS journey.

IBS can’t be cured but it can be controlled and managed through dietary and lifestyle measures.

Meal preparation...

This is something I like to chat a lot about with my clients as this is one of the magic keys to staying on track with your health journey...

Yes, it takes time. And yes, you have to be organised. And yes yes yes it is a pain in the backside once you start incorporating this, overwhelming project into your already busy schedule...

But but but... As with so many new things, practice makes perfect. And the same thing goes for meal prepping. The first couple of times, well they suck (pardon my french). You'll forget an ingredient, or you would have bought the wrong vegetables, or didn't leave yourself enough time to get it all done or simply just won't do it!

But once you get the hang of it and understand the organisation behind it (the shopping, the cutting, the cooking, the right containers etc) you will appreciate the benefits of it... Trust me. The time spends on meal prepping will come back to you tenfold.

And that's where the magic begins. Try it out. You'll get what I mean in a couple of weeks.

Let's start creating those good habits... They work!

If you need a helping hand or some guidance, you know where to find me (my website, or here, or you could just call me)

Our hormones affect us daily. One day we feel like we’re on top of the world, the next we can barely crawl out of bed. Our mood can change from happy, energetic and frisky to irritated, sad or anxious within days. This is all a common effect caused by our hormones. The increase or decrease of hormones such as estrogen or progesterone does so much more than preparing your body for pregnancy (which are one if their main roles). Your diet and lifestyle play a major role in how well managed your hormones are thus how well you are feeling. Certain nutrients are more important than others depending on what your body is signalling, such as with Estrogen Dominance. Overall, a diet high in fruit and vegetables, quality sources of protein, healthy fats and fibre will assist in you feeling better. A more specific and personalised plan can be prepared to fit you and your needs. If any of this sounds like you or if you want to know more. Feel free to contact me. Would love to hear from you. Visit me at gomadwithnutrition.com.au Hej hej 😉

Does my period really affect me?
Why can't I lose that stubborn weight around my belly?
Should I really be feeling this tired?
Why am I so agitated today?
Why am I so bloated?
Where did all my energy go? I was fine yesterday!
Why am I craving chocolate? or chips?

I love a good smoothie. This one I call the “Detox Smoothie”. It is filled with awesome nutrients that help to upregulate your liver detoxification processes, support your immune system and gut health, plus has anti-inflammatory properties. Have this in the morning before work or in the afternoon as a ‘pick me up’ snack. Either or, just add this to your recipe book
