Some of you may have seen I am expecting my second Bub early August & I realise the time is creeping up very quickly so here is a little update on my clinic & bookings.

โ˜ผ This is my last month consulting but may have a couple of available slots early next month so please send me a message if you are wanting to book in before I go on leave.

โ˜ผ During my maternity leave if you are a current client, I will still fulfil any repeat prescriptions & will still be contactable via email & socials but in August I will be mainly offline soaking in the new addition to our family โ˜บ๏ธ

Canโ€™t believe in a couple of months I will have a newborn again ๐Ÿฅน this pregnancy has flown by & is so different to when I was pregnant with Sadie. My body is telling me to slow down (as much as I can with a toddler haha) & start to nest & prepare for birth & the fourth trimester.

Iโ€™d love to know if thereโ€™s anything you wish you had done prior to having your second Bub, because I have not prepared anything yet & time is getting away from me ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies I see in clinic. Focusing on increasing your intake of Iron rich foods can help to improve levels.

Ideally the recommended intake of Iron per day is:
ใ€ฐ๏ธMen over 19 years - 8mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธWomen between 19 and 50 years - 18mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธWomen over 51 years- 8mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธPregnant women - 27mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธWomen who are exclusively breastfeeding - 10mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธ Infants (7-12months) - 11mg
ใ€ฐ๏ธ Children (varies dependant on age & gender) between 9mg-15mg)
(*this may vary depending on your individual needs, as during periods of growth, exercise, menstrual periods etc you may require more)

If you have been Iron deficient for years & years it is important you rule out other underlying factors as to why youโ€™re low, as there can be many reasons.

If you feel like you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to get this investigated & tested properly (TSH is not always going to show what your other thyroid hormones are doing). You want a full thyroid panel including TSH, T4, T3, rT3, TPO, TSI & Thyroglobulin antibodies investigated. Sometimes it may be worthwhile checking nutrients such as Iodine, Iron, Zinc, Copper, B12, Folate & Vitamin D.

If you are noticing a swollen throat, an ultrasound of your thyroid gland may be needed.

I can organise pathology testing if you canโ€™t get a full panel done via your GP.
