Veterans, this FREE program is designed by researchers to help you get back to doing what you love 💪

This ISN'T an exercise program - it's a 12-week program where you get support from other veterans to get more active with your mates or family, in whatever way you like.

The next group is starting very soon, so it’s a good time to reach out - whether for yourself or for someone you know who might be interested.

Just like your childhood toys, your heart can’t be replaced ❤️

If you're 45 years and over, you are eligible for a heart health check.

A Heart Health Check is a 20-minute check-up with your GP to assess your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Having a regular Heart Health Check with your GP will help you better understand your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Most importantly, your GP and nurse can support you to lower this risk.

It's officially Heart Week, so speak to your GP about a Heart Health Check or go to the Heart Foundation website for more info.

Health is more than just being active - it’s about connection, getting outside, and feeling part of something 💚

Last week, Vicky and Kirsten hosted a Walk Organiser info session, connecting with members of the Springfield community to explore new ideas for Heart Foundation Walking groups in the Springfield area.

Partnering with YMCA Springfield Lakes Community Centre, Multicultural Australia and Whiterock Community House, the morning was spent learning more about the benefits of walking outside, followed by a relaxed walk around the lake.

As conversations flowed, we saw just how easy it is for a walking group to create social connection, spotting boat racers on the lake, little corellas overhead, and the occasional water dragon 🐉 along the way.

We’re excited to see new walking groups grow, help people move together, and enjoy Springfield’s beautiful green spaces 🌱

Where could you start a walking group in your community?

👋 This one’s especially for people involved in charities or not‑for‑profits in Greater Springfield.

Many people told us how confusing, frustrating, or time‑consuming it is to work out where to go for health and wellbeing support. Services exist, but directories are often outdated, too clinical, or don’t reflect real‑life needs like cost, accessibility, or whether a place feels welcoming. So people rely on word of mouth.

So, we made LinkMeToHealth - a digital tool that turns that shared local knowledge into something searchable - all within an evidence‑based, community‑powered app. People can find nearby services, see what others have shared, and make more confident choices.

But it only works if the community shapes it.

💡We're looking for input from people working or volunteering with charities and not‑for‑profits in the Greater Springfield area💡

We’re running workshops soon to test and improve the tool, and we really need input from people who already support our community every day.

Interested in getting involved? Reach out to us at cchw@uq.edu.au

🔁 If you'd like to support your community, sharing this or passing it on to someone who fits this makes a real difference. Thank you!
