We had a busy day at YJN! today as our participants set up their own YJN! cafe at Hub31 and made toasties and coffees for Head Office (next door!) Orders were taken the day before and each one was personally delivered to the grateful Head Office staff over lunch today.

Participants enjoyed working together, learning great skills on the way (from teamwork, communication and problem solving), all while gaining experience in the Hospitality sector.

It was truly reminiscent of a commercial kitchen with lots of work happening, fantastic smells and a little bit of managed chaos! Feedback was glowing and a big thank you to Employment Coaches Jackson, Sophy & Christine for making this happen!

We are thrilled at Youth Jobs Now! to announce that Aroha has secured a spot for a 2-year internship at Neurodiversity Victoria! Aroha will be attending an online class at Brite Institute which is an accredited RTO. This will consist of 2 days a week for the next 2 years.

Additionally, Aroha will be completing a paid work placement apart of the internship as an animal handler.

Once she has completed the internship, Aroha will have a total of 4 accredited certificates and experience to work with animals, which is she so passionate about. Aroha will also have a chance to gain permanent employment once the internship is completed. We are beyond proud and thank Sophy for all her support and guidance helping make this dream possible for Aroha!

We’ve had a busy start at our Hub31 site delivering the first integrated program for both the Dandenong Day Service and Youth Jobs Now! participants.

Our new ‘Wellness in the Workplace’ program is running for the next 10 weeks. The content is highly visual, creative, and carefully developed to capture all learning abilities.

Its aim is to encourage young people with disabilities to be the BEST versions of themselves through teamwork, socialisation and having fun.

For many of our participant's, travel training experience is key to gaining independence. Which has been the case for YJN!'s Jessie. This week during Jessie's 1:1 session we got to explore the town!

We ensured we were not too distracted whilst walking, we followed the all the signs and kept an eye on Google Maps whilst we made our way to McDonalds for lunch and Ally Fashion for a quick look at the fashunnnnnn 😎⭐

Jessie did an incredible job. We know in no time she will be off independently travelling all on her own.

Jackson has experience in Youth Work and in other trades and has a vibrant, energetic and ‘can do’ attitude which has been warmly welcomed by all participants and staff. He is passionate about being a coach for participants to reach their employment goals.

⭐PINCH PUNCH FIRST OF THE MONTH! ⭐

Our participants visited the Disability Hub at Springvale Library. Our host Meenah was very welcoming, and the group participated, enjoyed morning tea, and learnt of the services offered by City of Greater Dandenong Libraries. Meenah encouraged our group to offer feedback on what future opportunities they would like to see at the libraries.

We had a blast!

Congratulations to our participant Vanessa and her EC Sophy for securing work experience placement at the Dandenong Market Florist. Working as a florist has been one of Vanessa's goals, she is so happy she can now pursue her passion and gain skills in an area of interest.

Our participants attended the Community Lunch which is held by our partners at Noble Community Park. They served lunch to 144 people which was a huge effort by our participants!
