Dear Families and Friends,
I started a new temporary role in a primary school this term. As a result, I'm committed to doing the best I can to support my students. Most likely, I'll be returning to my high school role at the beginning of next year. Due to this change of circumstances, Yogadivas will not be operating until next year, sadly.
This doesn't diminish my commitment to supporting children to learn yoga and share the many benefits that yoga brings. So I hope to see you in the new year!
In the meantime, I've been actively involved in conservation efforts after experiencing my Cape York expedition. It was a real eye opener, to say the least! When you see the impacts of plastic, ghost nets, and other rubbish that we don't see so much on our pristine Jervis Bay beaches, it really makes you realise that we need to take action and now!
I've become a volunteer for Sea Shepherd, joined Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Fund, Australian Conservation Society, and the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
I'm hoping to support our First Nations Peoples who work to protect country, waterways, and oceans. The Shoalhaven teachers who embarked on this expedition saw how our endangered turtles are being driven to extinction. They battle higher temperatures due to climate change, resulting in fewer male turtles hatching. Then, they have nests raided by dingoes, feral pigs, and other predators. They struggle on the sand as the beaches are littered with debris from our human impacts. It's amazing that any turtles survive, and at this rate, they're not going to. Just recently, turtles have washed up dead around Port Stephens. We've just seen the nightmare that has unfolded in South Australia, wiping out marine life there. Due to all of this, I really have to ask what's going on? It's not good, and we can no longer pretend that this isn't happening. So, if any of this has resonated with you, and like me, you care about our planet and future, consider doing some research and make your own mind up as to whether we all need to do something to help save our planet.
Love and Light,
Mel
