Those are the rules… 👀
Look, we KNOW it’s tempting ok.

But between the shows and the counterfeits and the unregulated, you’re pretty much playing with matches in a meadow.

Seriously though, we’ve never seen so many shocked barriers before and it strangely correlates with self skin diagnosis and the rise of Korean 7 step skincare routines 👀👀👀

🛑 Everyone loves a good Hyaluronic acid serum - but is it actually making your skin worse?? 👀

Here’s what you need to know if HA is your obsession:

➡️ Don’t be duped!
Dupes and cheap HA serums commonly use the wrong weights (large molecules). Instead of pulling water into your skin, they suck moisture out - leaving your skin thirsty and barrier irritated.

It’s pretty much the equivalent of drinking salt water when you’re dehydrated 😩

➡️ Know your Type!
On an impaired skin (think dry, hot, itchy, flaky or sore), HA behaves like an over-eager sponge.
It absorbs water into the upper layers of the skin, swelling your keratinocytes (so it FEELS nice and plump).

But without enough lipids to seal it all that water evaporates super quickly, leaving skin even drier and more inflamed. And so you apply more and more but nothing changes.

💧In high humidity, HA can draw moisture from the air so the skin looks hydrated
☀️ In dry climates there’s no ambient moisture to pull from so the HA steals it from your own skin, which can worsen dehydration

INTELLIGENT SKINCARE ~ VOGUE X HÜD
As a founder and someone who started my business because of my own skin journey (struggles with acne and melasma), I know firsthand how tempting quick fixes and glass skin, poreless, plump skin is….

The desire to find “the one” (skincare product or treatment) that will have you skip all the stops and go straight to juicy skin heaven…

But the reality is, the skin is an organ.
It takes time to become un balanced - and it takes time to get back into balance again.

It throws curveballs depending on hormones, allergies, lifestyle factors, diet and so many other variables. So treating skin simply cannot always be linear and easy (if it were we wouldn’t have hundreds of thousands of clients previously on roaccutane having relapses…).

Skincare is evolving. And I had the privilege of sharing my thoughts on the (exciting!) direction we’re headed.

Thank you Karen Leong for writing this article for raising the topic of intelligent skincare and the future of aesthetics.

It’s an important conversation - and we welcome a move away from quick fixes, big fillers, stripped away barriers which look glassy but have zero protection - and a one size fits all approach.
