A fantastic evening of education, collaboration, and hands-on learning!

Landmark Orthopaedics, in partnership with St Vincent's Health Australia and Mater Hospital, recently hosted a GP Education event focused on ACL, Meniscus & Osteotomy procedures around the knee joint.

The evening kicked off with insightful talks from leading orthopaedic surgeons Dr Brett Fritsch. Dr Alex Nicholls, Dr Myles Coolican & Dr David Parker, covering the latest in diagnosis and management of knee conditions. We were also privileged to have Dr James Linklater from Castlereagh Imaging share invaluable tips on optimising knee imaging outcomes.

Following the didactic sessions, attendees broke into small groups for interactive, hands-on demonstrations — a fantastic opportunity to deepen understanding and ask practical, case-based questions directly to the experts.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for these collaborative, educational evenings.

🦵🔍 Exploring the Meniscus: Key to Knee Function! 🦵🔍

The meniscus is a crucial cartilage structure in the knee, serving as a shock absorber and stabiliser during movement. It’s split into two parts: the medial and lateral meniscus, each playing a role in maintaining the joint’s integrity.

Injuries to the meniscus are common, especially in athletes, and can lead to pain, swelling, and decreased mobility. Understanding its function, as well as the various types of tears and treatment options, is essential for effective recovery.

We had a great time hosting Ramsay Health Care October GP education session 'All about knees' at Landmark Orthopaedics. We would like to thank our presenters, Dr Myles Coolican, Dr David Parker and Dr Jobe Shatrov, and Chloe Donovan and Geoff Loomes from Jointli, for their informative and engaging workshops.

Our attendees enjoyed rotating through 5 workshops that focused on evidence-based treatments and diagnosis for knee arthritis, including exercise management, knee injections, and total knee replacement surgery.

We are committed to providing GPs with the latest information and best practices in orthopaedic care, so that they can provide their patients with the best possible outcomes. Stay tuned for more educational events in the future!

Last month we celebrated one year at Landmark Orthopaedics! In this short time, we've made incredible progress in our mission to provide our patients with the highest quality of care as the centre of knee excellence. Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI) is committed to finding new and better ways to treat ACL injuries.

Not every ACL injury requires surgery, and non-surgical methods may be suitable for certain patients. Therefore, we are conducting a study to explore non-surgical treatment options at our facility at Landmark Orthopaedics.

This study will involve clinical assessments, state of the art athletic performance testing at Jointli, robotic knee laxity testing and MRI analysis. This information will help us to better understand the effectiveness of non-surgical treatments and to better understand which patients can be managed successfully without surgery.

This study is part of SORI’s ongoing commitment to research that improves the lives of patients with knee injuries.

Most medical imaging in orthopaedics measures patients standing upright and may not fully evaluate the outcomes of patients in their activities of daily living. 3D motion capture and computational modeling allow us to examine in-vivo joint loads while patients undertake their daily activities.

At the Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute, Yoong Lim, PhD, collects patients' biomechanical data and computes joint function. We have significant interest and experience in examining patients' data on various knee surgeries. These data are used to evaluate clinical outcomes and inform surgery decisions.

Sydney Orthopaedic Research Institute (SORI) hosts a variety of fellows throughout the year, including clinical fellows, research fellows, observers, and international travelling fellows. This opportunity allows them to gain exposure to the different surgical techniques employed by consulting surgeons at The Knee Institute, and to take the skills they learn back to their home countries.

In addition to clinical training, the fellows actively participate in regular clinical and scientific meetings, present at international conferences, and conduct their research at our state-of-the-art facility here at Landmark Orthopaedics. This unique experience not only creates lifelong friendships, but it also connects fellows to a global network of orthopaedic surgeons.
