An excellent breastfeeding resource

What happens after birth?

In the first few days, your breasts make colostrum - a thick yellowish fluid, high in protein and immune factors. This is all your baby needs. Around day 3 - 5, the colostrum begins to change to mature breastmilk, and your supply quickly increases. If you breastfeed often, your supply will meet the baby's needs.

A good question answered - is breastfeeding your baby to sleep severing bad habits??? Read this helpful info to find out….

Does your baby sleep as well as you expected?

Did you know wakefulness is a completely normal means of survival? Babies wake naturally to make sure they get enough food to grow. Early sleep patterns don’t last forever.

A breastfeed is often the quickest and most natural way to settle a baby, as mums through the ages have found. Breastfeeding your baby to sleep gives them food, comfort and helps them to relax. It won't give them ‘bad habits’ and won’t stop them being able to settle in other ways or for other people.

Have you noticed the full feeling in your breasts disappear after the early weeks? Many mothers worry that they don’t have enough milk if their breasts feel soft, or if they cannot feel their let-down reflex.

After the early weeks, your body adjusts to your baby’s needs. This simply means that your milk supply is now 'in sync' with your baby’s needs.

Some mothers never feel their let-down reflex. Fortunately there are other ways to tell when your let-down reflex occurs. Your baby’s sucking changes from a shallow, quick suck to a deeper, more rhythmic suck and milk may drip from the other breast.

Having a new baby can be tiring - and confusing!

Most young babies will wake several times or more during the night and need help from a parent to fall back to sleep.
