Today, ACD and Melanoma and Skin Cancer Advocacy Network - MSCAN launched the National Skin Cancer Scorecard 2025 at the Parliamentary Friends of Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness gathering at Parliament House, Canberra.

Our dermatologists Dr Adrian Lim (ACD President), A/Prof Alexander Chamberlain, and A/Prof Simone M. Goldinger performed skin checks for parliamentarians followed by a BBQ to celebrate the Scorecard launch.

In the afternoon, MSCAN hosted a Roundtable attended by Dr Adrian Lim and other thought leaders across the skin cancer sector. The roundtable was a fantastic opportunity to bring together clinicians, researchers, and passionate consumers to discuss how we can prioritise actions that will save lives.

Special thanks to MSCAN who convened today’s events, and to members, senators, policymakers and members of the community who attended. We are excited for next steps that will ensure better skin cancer outcomes for all Australians.

Skin cancer is our most common cancer, claiming the lives of over 2,000 Australians each year and costing the health system $2.47 billion annually.

That’s why ACD has joined forces with Melanoma and Skin Cancer Advocacy Network - MSCAN to launch the National Skin Cancer Scorecard 2025.

The Scorecard presents 16 evidence-based items to track progress in prevention, early detection, treatment, support and care developed by experts from across the skin cancer sector. The 16 items highlight critical gaps and offer actionable next steps to reduce the burden of melanoma and skin cancer.

We are thrilled to launch the Scorecard with the Parliamentary Friends of Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness in Canberra today. Stay tuned for more information!

Let’s unite to keep skin cancer on the national agenda.

John Clements, skin cancer survivor and resident of South Australia, is making sure important sun protection habits are passed down to his kids and grandkids. The whole Clements family is now passionate about taking care of themselves in the sun – they hope their experiences will help your family develop SunSmart habits, too. 🧥🧴👒⛱️🕶️

Two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, yet our research shows that young Australians are less inclined to protect themselves during outdoor activities.

Skin cancer is almost entirely preventable by using the five forms of sun protection: Slip into sun-protective clothing, Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen, Slap on a broad-brimmed hat, Seek shade, and Slide on sunglasses.

Make sure to protect yourself when the UV is 3 and above.

This week is !

Alopecia Areata is an auto-immune condition resulting in hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. It can range from small, individual patches of hair loss to total loss of all hair on the body.

As part of our Help Helps campaign, Bridget discussed how her relationship with her dermatologist has helped with her experience of living with Alopecia Areata.
We are proud to work with the Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation Inc. to support Australians living with alopecia areata.

AAAF is hosting events across the country to raise awareness and bring our community together — from the Boldest Bald Brunch to Crazy Hair Day in schools and youth organisations.
