Channel 7 sports presenter Mel McLaughlin is sharing her story after being diagnosed with lung cancer late last year and undergoing surgery here at North Shore Private Hospital.

Her tumour was removed by Dr Levi Bassin and our team using cutting-edge robotic technology. The same cancer claimed the life of her big sister a decade ago.

“The reason why I wanted to do it is not to talk about me,” she said. “It’s awareness. It’s the biggest cancer killer in the country. It’s got a terrible stigma. I feel like I owe it to my sister.”

On 25 April, we pause to honour ANZAC Day—a national day of remembrance that marks the anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and pays tribute to all Australians and New Zealanders who have served—and continue to serve—in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping.

ANZAC Day is a powerful reminder of the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of those who came before us. It’s also a time to reflect on the values they upheld—mateship, endurance, and compassion—which continue to shape our communities today.
