Over the past few weeks we have been touching on some wonderful things connected to Kindness.

Today I want to share a cool story called the Goodness Finder which is a nice flow on from this 🧐

There once was a king who had two sons. As the king was nearing the end of his life, he had to decide which of his sons was truly noble and would be the most benevolent caretaker of his people, ruling the kingdom when he was gone.

He called his first son and asked him to go throughout the kingdom and find one truly good person and bring back. So the prince travelled throughout the kingdom in search of a good person. He first went to all the places where he thought he would be most likely find a good person such as the holy places and places of worship and interviewed the teachers and students. On the surface, they seemed good but the more he delved, the more he found that each person was flawed in some way.

He travelled over the entire kingdom, seeking goodness among older people who he thought would be wise because of their age, and among young children who he thought would be innocent and found fault with all of them as well. In all people, men and women, old people and children he found fault in their behavior and character. After one year of searching, he returned to his father and told him he was unable find one good person in the whole kingdom.

Now the king called his second son and told him to find a bad person and bring him to him. This son travelled to all the disreputable parts of the kingdom. He visited the prison and the places where the prostitutes worked. He interviewed all kinds of people. At first they seemed bad, but as he talked to them and got to know them better, he would find something good in each and every person. At the end of a year, he realized he couldn’t take anyone back to his father so he returned and apologized for not finding a truly bad person. The father then embraced his son and said β€œYou are worthy of being king. I have found my replacement.”

There is a saying that one person looks at the full moon and is overwhelmed by its beauty; another person notices the pockmarks on the surface. What kind of person am I? Every one of us is like a small moon, reflecting the effulgence of and beauty of the Supreme. In truth, every living being is an angel, a spark of the Supreme. In some of us the natural angelic qualities are apparent and in others they are more covered. However, a good man sees the good in all. We need to soberly ask ourselves: Do I see the good and positive things in people or do I see their faults? Am I a fault finder or a goodness finder? The answer determines whether we will taste the sweetness of spiritual love.

Would love to hear how this story can invite some reflection in you with your dealing with others?

Kirtan is the easiest and most effective form of meditation and the heart and soul of Yoga. Kirtan frees us from our deepest anxieties and fears and allows us to experience the inner peace and spiritual happiness we long for.

Honestly these days just getting sweeter and sweeter at our Tween Girls Retreat Day.

What a wonderful group of future yogis in the making and a jam packed day we had, early night and bath on the cards for me tonight 🀫

We had a blast, playing games and getting to know each other, then dropped the energy down for breathwork, yoga asana and relaxation. Then we all got in and made lunch together, diy fresh juice bar, yummy wraps and chips πŸ˜‹ talk about competent in the kitchen.

Plus meaningful guided chats over lunch playing two truths and a wellness wish to kickstart some organic conversations around holistic wellness and goal setting, hearing from the girls some of the challenges they are navigating with their wellbeing at present. Honest, thoughtful sharing, was very special to be apart of.

Then we got out under the blue sky and tall trees and did some craft, painting our own meditation bead bag and meditation card and then ended with a nice meditation session; sharing the practice of meditation on beads, kirtan meditation and a soothing sound bath to end.

Happy days all around πŸ₯³

We have been quietly working behind the scenes over the past 3 months as we launched and tested a new pilot project that aims to share the yoga love to the most vulnerable people of our community and offer something at the grass roots level for people experiencing homelessness.

Homelessness is on the rise and we couldn't sit back any longer without taking action in a small way.

Each month a team of heart-led bakers get cooking with their allocated recipe we have put together that is yummy nutritious and loaded with spiritual love and we make up snack boxes which consist of vegetarian goodness; two savoury items and two sweet treats.

We have put time and care into crafting this offering to express to our friends on the streets that they are not forgotten and there is always hope. The beautifully packaged snack packs are made up as gifts with the intention of making that person receiving it feel seen and cared for in that moment, attachment a little note to express just that and a QR code with some simple mindfulness and meditation guided tracks that they may want to lean into to help support the load they are carrying, after all self care is our calling.

They have been so well received by the people sleeping rough in the BCC and Mortan Bay area and the amazing team at Nourish Street Inc and Northwest Community Group Inc. who distribute them are doing such hard work. Having worked in youth homelessness in crisis intervention for six years I have a deep appreciation for what these guys are doing, day in and night in. Their unwavering support and advocacy for those whose voices are forgotten is next level and they are paving the way in the sector.

We couldn't be happier with what this project has achieved in such a short amount of time and the beautiful heart-led community of backers, packers and donors who are getting behind it is just so touching; a community is growing and it's wonderful to witness and be a part of.

We have sent out 504 snack boxes of love to date and have 30 volunteers who help to bring this together on a monthly basis.

Sadly though, the need is increasing out there in the community and so we want to continue to take this project from strength to strength and support it as much as possible.

If you feel moved to help, then please reach out.

We are seeking reliable people who can make a monthly commitment ongoingly, we are striving to create a well oiled machine that can just run itself as let's face it we are already giving so much to others through the big voluntary hours we do with our weekly offerings so commitment is essential and a respectful attitude towards the deeper intentions behind this project is a must πŸ™

Confident cooks are welcomed and if not our packing team would love to have you on board (packing days which are once a month on a Friday are so fun and filled with community spirit).

Please email Emma, logistics queen πŸ‘‘ at emma@asmy.org.au or hit us both up at a program to get the lowdown.

We hope this little video of the magic that is being created touches your heart as it has ours and at the end there are some beautiful shares from a few of the heart-led bakers you don't want miss.

The first drop we did to Nourish St is etched into my memory forever, they were blown away by our offering and how much love and care was put into, Beau the founder was speechless and he shared a beautiful story that night on there page about these snack boxes...here it is

"A huge thank you to Compassion for Community for providing the food and to the beautiful team at ASMY NorthBrisbane for the handmade snack packs. At our first stop, I gave one of those snack boxes to a woman and she started to cry. Real tears, just from being handed a small box of kindness. Not because of what was inside, but because someone had taken the time to make it with care. That one act reminded her that she mattered"

This is exactly the impact and care we want to spread 🫢

We feel so humbled and blessed to be part of this project, reach out if you want to walk this journey with us.
