Tarquin Ward Somatic Counselling Often we live from parts of our selves that are not integrated resulting in an awareness that only comes from the periphery of our bodies.

As an Integrative Psychotherapist I facilitate a process of exploring and stepping into embodied awareness through cultivating an integrated sense of self and presence in ones life and relationships. This way of being in the world has served a purpose through surviving and avoiding sequested parts of ourselves and experiences that we could not tolerate or understand, for some this could have been experiencing trauma and neglect. By being guided and supported in developing and cultivating embodied presence, we can start to integrate and re-claim these lost parts of our experience and awareness.

When we have been stuck for too long, the path ahead may become narrow and ridgid. Conventional sense making in the search for change or healing might only strengthen the web of reality that has been holding the problem in place, causing more frustration and suffering, the struggle to escape only making the web tighter.

Sometimes we must step outside the web of ordinary reality, and with action and imagination make contact with what is non-ordinary and sacred, to discover what solution is waiting that can untie the knot and open up a new path and possibilities.

In a society that has co-opted spirituality via online algorithms, wellness gurus, corporate mc-mindfulness and spiritual by-passing, the collective banishing of grief and suffering has been amplified through a culture of narcissistic late-stage capitalism that is hyper individual while relying on deification and mass consumption to perpetuate itself. In this techno-mediated loss of soul and sense making, indigenous technologies, such as ritual, language for, connection to the other, and the capacity to seek what is sacred and turn towards what is painful have been fragmented and lost.

In contrast to this ongoing titan struggle for perpetual growth, positivity and predictability, grief and loss is the reminder, our common humanity that will visit everyone, that there is a beginning and an end, that we will be shattered and break apart, that there will be many losses along the way both big and small. With this certainty of death, it is only by orienting ourselves to this oneiric centrality of shared experience that a more cohesive sense of self and society can be explored. Perhaps by forgetting to tend to the dead, we have forgotten how to tend to what is alive in us and the world.

Our Story

Tarquin works in private practice offering mentoring sessions and is qualified as a counsellor and a integrative somatic psychotherapist. He brings together body-mind work, counselling, trauma therapy, psychotherapy and depth psychology, in a grounded and practical way to assist in guiding individuals to create and discover inner and outer transformation that is both tangible and ongoing.

After exploring eastern body-mind healing methods Tarquin discovered body psychotherapy and completed three years of training at The Institute of Body Psychotherapy where he also served as an intern and faculty member. Since then he has continued his mental health post grad studies at Griffith University and with various body and depth psychotherapy practitioners from abroad. In addition to working in private practice he has run mental health programs, lectured in body psychotherapy and run mindful movement classes. He is a member of the Australian Counselling Association and works with a high level of integrity that is both warm and professional.

Tarquin is passionate about supporting individuals in embodying a new way of being in the world that is mature and soulful. He believes that individuals can find their own healing and transformation, and that they can then share it in their relationships and communities.

Warmly, Tarquin Ward
