As we head into the Christmas period, it’s always good to remind ourselves that despite the smiling exterior, Christmas can be a difficult time for many people. Fuses can run short, especially when shopping, so remember to take a slow deep breath before reacting. We never know what is going on in someone’s life.

Be kind always.

Many of you already know that from December 10th, the Australian government is implementing a requirement for digital ID to access social media (to ALLEGEDLY “protect the children”). I won’t be signing up to digital ID, which means I could be losing access to my social media accounts/profiles. If this happens, you won’t see my content anymore.

If this happens, I will still be staying in touch with those on my email list, so please go to my website and sign up to the bi-monthly newsletter at the bottom of the page to keep in touch.

I have made the choice to stand up for what I believe in. There is a chance that nothing will happen, so let’s wait and see! But if I do get locked out, please keep in touch via my newsletter.

Much love to all of you for your ongoing support.

Who tends to let go a little and overindulge over the Christmas and New Year break? This can be both good and bad. I’m all for relaxing a bit and enjoying good food and great company at this time of year, but it’s also important to remember the balance and not leave yourself feeling miserable, unwell and filled with guilt.

Make sure you prioritise great food, including LOTS of veggies, quality protein and complex carbs (don’t fear the carbs people!). Minimise snacking, be mindful of your sugar intake and alcohol consumption (have some mineral water with lemon or lime in between drinks to keep you hydrated) and try to keep your routine and get plenty of sleep.

Remember, the goal is to ENJOY this time, to rest, connect, laugh and play. You will do this best when you are feeling great.

Happy holidays everyone X

LOOKING FOR A HEALTHY GIFT FOR A LOVED ONE?

Introducing Chelsey Jean Lymphatic Gloves! These gorgeous gloves last a lifetime and are a great gift for someone who needs some TLC in their life. They are especially awesome for people who are ‘too busy’ to find time for self-care because they can be used for literally 2-5 minutes daily as part of your usual showering routine. Best yet, they help to move stagnant lymphatic fluid and reduce puffiness and fatigue, leaving you with great skin, happy hormones and the best bit - you’ll feel AMAZING!

I have a few left in stock including gift packs with magnesium spray, lymphatic cream and probiotic face cream. Blissful!

Reach out if you would like one. https://deniseberrynaturopath.com

This is the BEST part of Christmas for me. I LOVE making these mini puddings (yes, you can do a large one too) and gifting them to friends. I made them each year for my family Christmas in Victoria (and a second batch for my baby sister who would freeze them and eat through the year) and I now serve them at my adoptive family’s Christmas gathering. It is super easy, gob-smackingly delicious and gluten free (and dairy free with a minor tweak).

Give it a go. I just know you will love it as much as I do.

https://deniseberrynaturopath.com/the-best-christmas-pudding-recipe/

Christmas can mean many things to people, but for myself and my family it’s all about the food. Both of my grandmothers used to lovingly make their puddings the old-fashioned way – from scratch – and when they passed away, our tradition was gone. Sadly my mum missed out on the cooking gene (sh...

Well it happened again. I blinked and missed the first 11 months of 2025 and here we are in December! Christmas is upon us and I can now shake off my grinch-like attitude and tolerate decorations and carols (seriously October and November are NOT Christmas!). LOL

So here are the important details you need regarding the holiday clinic closure:

Last day to place orders: Thursday 11 December by 12 noon at the latest
Last day of clinic: Thursday 18 December, closing at 12.30 pm
Clinic reopens: Monday 5 January 2026

Remember to stay as sane as you can during the silly season and find the balance amidst the chaos. I’m here if you need anything up until 18 December. https://deniseberrynaturopath.com

We live in a world of convenience. Most things are at the click of a button or the press of a finger. We can order takeaway food or ready meals to be delivered to home or we can stop at the supermarket to grab something quick on the way home for work for dinner.
But in all of this convenience, I feel we have lost the heart and soul of the kitchen and our love of real food.

I have a great friend who’s kitchen is where we sit for cups of tea and home made treats and lots of laughs. There is always something fermenting, marinating or cooling in her kitchen as she lovingly makes everything from scratch. I LOVE being in that kitchen as it is the heart of her home.

As a single person, I choose to prioritise good food and make the effort to cook for myself every day. I buy single ingredients in bulk and make things from scratch including sauces, curries and sourdough bread, to name just a few. My fridge is always packed with lots of fresh veg, my freezer is stocked with individually frozen portions of meat and fish, and my pantry has an array of dried and canned beans, legumes and tomatoes etc. I also cook in bulk and freeze meals in portions for those nights I just can’t be bothered.

Slow food means great food. We can be more connected with what we are putting into our bodies, but also gives us more time to connect with our loved ones while we prepare and enjoy the food. But we need to prioritise this and make time for it.

This is the kind of rebellion I want to see. Let’s get back to basics and to the heart of our homes - the kitchen.

This came to me this morning from one of my clients. ❤️

It is always lovely to get messages like this, but what is even better, is that this client finally understands why taking a truck load of high dose supplements didn't help her to get well. She has spent 4 years working with a range of practitioners with little results. She is now truly ready to address the driving factors behind her chronic illness - her nervous system being one of them. The reference to JOY is literal here - she is ready to go out and find true connection with others, eat for pleasure (and nutrition) and focus more on seeking pure joy in her life. How inspiring is that?

Have a truly lovely weekend and make sure you find your JOY.

With love,

Denise

As you know, I’m a big fan of DIVERSITY when it comes to food. Eating lots of different coloured plants is one of the single best things you can do for your heart health. The classic statement ‘eat the rainbow’ paints the picture, but brightly coloured fruits and vegetables, including purple (think berries, purple cabbage etc) are freakin’ amazing for your heart.

What is even better than this?

Eat foods you love with those you love. Food should be pleasurable, joyful and delicious.

If we all simply look for real food, SLOW food and get the pleasure back into our kitchens, I think our hearts would be much happier and healthier overall.

What do you think about slow food? And what is your favourite purple coloured fruit or vegetable?

YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR GENES
Many of you know that I am a genetics and nutrigenomics nerd. I am passionate about it because of my family history, including such diseases as hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and early onset Alzheimer’s disease. It spurred a strong desire to understand the root cause of these conditions and most importantly, how to reverse or prevent them in the first place.

I have learned a lot about the role that genes play in the pathogenesis of these diseases. But do you know what I have learned that is even MORE important than the genetic variants themselves?

EPIGENETICS.

Epigenetics are the things we DO that impact our genes i.e. switch them on or off. For example, the foods we eat, the exercise we do, the supplements we take, how we sleep, how we laugh… All of these things are more powerful than the genes themselves.

I’m about to turn 50 so I figured it was time to check some of these things out given my high risk status. My liver is the healthiest it has been in my life, my blood glucose and insulin are perfect and my cholesterol is fine (okay, GP says it's high but I say pffft). There are a few things I need to work on, but all totally doable.

These days I’m eating well, drinking less alcohol and eating less chocolate (still some, I’m a realist) and I walk or cycle daily (Smokey wouldn’t speak to me if we didn’t). I play music and sing every week with my band, I regularly catch up with good friends and we laugh our arses off and I get my creative juices flowing working with clay every few months.

Life is good.

So as I enter my 50s, I’m feeling pretty darn good about my health and wellbeing.

FATTY LIVER? TYPE 2 DIABETES? METABOLIC DISEASE?

Every one of these conditions are considered lifestyle diseases. In my mind this is a GOOD thing because if you change your lifestyle, you can reverse the disease.

Yet the reality is that only 1 in 10 people will actually do this.

If you want to be that 1 in 10 and need some guidance on how and what to eat, the best exercise for you, and what lifestyle changes can help, I am your gal.

I take great pride in working with clients to achieve these goals. For many it can take as little as 12 weeks to see the positive changes.

The best bit? You will feel and look a million bucks.
