Welcome to the team, Jo!

We are excited to welcome Jo Kitchen to our team. Jo is a Clinical Social Worker (Medicare Provider) with 25 years of experience supporting individuals and families. Jo draws upon a range of interventions including Narrative, Schema, EMDR, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Solution Focused approaches. She has completed advanced EMDR training and her background spans the fields of Child Protection, Refugee Settlement, Aboriginal Health, and Family Violence, reflecting extensive expertise as a trauma practitioner. Jo offers individual and family counselling, assisting clients in understanding their challenges and fostering greater connection with themselves and those who matter most.

New animal-assisted mental health funding round now open – support for the veterinarian health sector

With all recent NDIS changes, there has been some confusion around whether equine- assisted services (“equine therapy”) can be funded by the NDIS. Animal Therapies has obtain clarification, and confirmed that equine-assisted services CAN be provided by allied heath professionals within their scope of practice.

However we would encourage everyone attending Horsetales to not use the term “equine therapy”, as this is misleading and not in line with current guidelines in the field. We offer psychological treatment, and this may or may not be equine-assisted depending on treatment goals and what would be considered helpful for someone’s individual circumstances.

ATL has on record, current NDIA correspondence shared with ATL that says “equine therapy can only be delivered as part of a therapeutic intervention by an allied health professional who must be present during the session.”

“Additionally, the cost of the equine therapy must be incorporated into the overall cost of the allied health professional’s service”

Invoicing should be in line with the NDIS price guide.

If you are delivering or receiving “equine therapy” consistent with the above rules in accordance with the participants plan and your invoice or service is being rejected, phone or write to the NDIS referencing the above information.
