I spent time this evening talking to the 15โ€™s boys afl group before they head to QLD in a couple of weeks.

Teaching young athletes to fuel well for health, growth and performance is something I am grateful I get to do.

Putting the time and planning into building food habits that support performance is well worth it and TNT - takes no talent. Every young athlete has equal opportunity to get great results and a performance edge.

If you thought fuelling for sport was complex or time consuming you havenโ€™t been to a dance concert.

Try performing twice plus a full dress rehearsal with 5 costume changes per session - not messing up your make up whilst eating and flinging your body around every which way! Being hydrated whilst not adding in multiple toilet trips to add to the costume on/off fun.

I have had the pleasure of sharing the ins and outs of sports fuelling with our state swimming squad, henley & grange swimming club and Loreto college students recently. Earlier in the year I spoke with the State netball and sturt football junior squads. Keeping our you g athletes healthy, fit, strong and enjoying their movement and food is something I love being part of.

All of these groups had great questions and were interactive putting together their own sports fuelling plan.

I encourage all athletes to manage their own fuel planning & preparation. Parents are there to assist and keep the pantry & fridge stocked (never ending bottomless pit with sports kids!).

๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป Athlete, not mum/dad should be packing their food for training& school.
๐ŸŽ’pack the night before, make sure it reflects the level of fuel you need that day
๐Ÿงƒportable items, options that can freeze in the hotter weather or need to padt through til after school pre training/game.
๐Ÿฅ–๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฌ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒ know your carb types, timing and total amount
๐Ÿฅฉ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅ›spread prtoein across the day
๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿฅœ๐ŸŸ include healthy fats
๐Ÿฅ— colour for bowel health and micronutrient density

Think loads of food, fluids, sweaty clothing shoes etc
Daily map / route planning 3 vehicles daily camping set up/pack up! One huge adventure.

Great mates dropping in along the way to provide additional support running more km than they ever have alongside Cooper.

My family joined Cooper across this weekend and will catch him as he continues to head further south along the Heysen trail.
