BEFRIEND THE MYSTERY OF MINDFULNESS: Mindfulness is turning your awareness inwards and becoming a witness to your experience. Present to the experience but standing one step back from it and observing it, quietly and passively. Passively in the sense, you don't have to do or produce anything.
Notice what comes into awareness spontaneously, by itself.
When you are mindful, try to accept uncritically whatever arises - even what you may consider weird, wacky, inappropriate. Remaining curious as to what comes into consciousness. Suspending judgements on what 'should' come into your mind or what it all means.
Allowing what you observe to have a mysterious quality to it and welcoming, befriending rather than theorising, justifying or looking for something else to be present.
I'm exploring this concept in classes this week. A few ways to help cultivate mindfulness are breath practices, contemplative practices, sensory tracking and movement.
