⭐️ Sydney Marathon 2025 ⭐️

I wanted a goal, I want to challenge myself and for a long time I haven’t been doing that. This year was the year to step outside the comfort zone again and in the end we were able to achieve a life milestone.

From hating running —> couch to 5km —> half marathon—> and eventually finishing a marathon.

It’s been fun documenting this running journey and for those who were invested, thankyou for the kind messages and the support along the way. Hopefully I’ve motivated you to run or even just be a little more active.

We”ll see where running takes me from here!

They warn you how difficult the marathon is. It challenges you mentally and physically, but you really don’t know what it’s like till you experience it first hand.

Unfortunately we fell well short of the sub 4 goal. I thought I was very conservative in the early down hill start and whilst my heart was rate quite low I knew my legs were taking a beating. My pace slowed a sec every km and at 16km I knew the goal was well out of reach. My legs were not feeling good on this tough hilly course. I had to adapt so I tried to slow down but it was still an uphill battle. Physically my legs were starting to break and cramps kicked in at around 18km mark. Got into some real tough spots but we kept showing up. New goal was to just keep running, not stop and make it through to the finish line.

On a positive note Sydney completely showed out! The weather couldn’t get any better. The vibes and crowd were also electric and this help really helped push along.

Whilst it’s not the time I wanted, I’m proud of my efforts. It took much mental fortitude and resilience but I can finally say I’ve completed a marathon.

Redemption complete! (12 minute PB).

C2S Chip time - 64:16.
Strava time - 64:05.

First few kms felt tougher than expected but was able to find a nice rhythm approaching heart break hill. Plan was to start conservatively.

Dropped the speed and relied on effort for heart break hill, keeping a consistent pace.

Not sure if it was the conservative start or the marathon training, but felt great and was able to fly home in the last 3-4km.

Overall very happy with how the race went. Plan was executed and the goal of sub 65 was achieved :)

🏃‍♂️ In just 3 months, I’ll be taking on my first ever marathon — 2025 TCS Sydney Marathon .

Not as a ballot runner (I missed out!), but as a charity runner for a cause close to me: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) .

As a physiotherapist, I’ve seen first hand the life-altering impact MS can have on people’s physical ability and quality of life. That’s why I’ve chosen to run for MS Plus, an amazing organisation that supports those living with MS through essential services, advocacy, and groundbreaking research — all in the pursuit of better treatments and, one day, a cure.

Running is a newly found passion, and now I’m combining it with my passion for helping others. So far, thanks to the incredible support from close friends, family, and , we’ve already raised $2,500! 🙌

👉 If you’d like to support this amazing cause and help make a real difference, please donate via the link below:

Every dollar counts. Every step is for those who can’t.

Thank you so much for your support ❤️

First Half Marathon ✅
Official time : 1:50:05

Not exactly how I wanted to finish the race but you can’t expect everything to go right on race day.

Race Recount:

First 15km felt comfortable and never felt like I overexerted. Was on a 5min pace with the plan to power home for a 1:45 finish but all of a sudden my legs hit the wall at 15km before the elevation kicked in.

Cramping started in my left calf and by 16km both my quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves were all cramping with no confidence to stride out.

Mindset shifted from a 1:45 goal to I hope I can just finish the race.

Last 2km was very tough. Dragging my legs to the finish line.

At the end of the day it was a huge learning curve and if I’m to do the Sydney marathon in 4 months, I need to be better!

- Not enough training at threshold/race pace
- Despite feeling comfortable and never felt like I overexerted, I need to hold back at the start
- I was well prepared for hills but still the legs need to be better conditioned

A week off before we get stuck into Sydney Marathon prep.
