With Easter weekend here and planning happening for many easter egg hunts - take the time to consider mindful eating habits.

Mindful eating involves paying closer attention to your food and how it makes you feel. In addition to helping you learn to distinguish between physical and emotional hunger, it may also help reduce disordered eating behaviours and support weight loss.

Mindfulness is a form of meditation that helps you recognize and cope with your emotions and physical sensations.

Mindful eating involves using mindfulness to reach a state of full attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when eating.

Fundamentally, mindful eating involves:

• eating slowly and without distraction
• listening to physical hunger cues and eating only until you’re full
• distinguishing between true hunger and non-hunger triggers for eating
• engaging your senses by noticing colours, smells, sounds, textures, and Flavors
• learning to cope with guilt and anxiety about food
• eating to maintain overall health and well-being
• noticing the effects food has on your feelings and body
• appreciating your food

Mindful eating is one of the concepts we discuss with patients in our inpatient group programs as well as our outpatient group programs.

As you are aware, Cyclone Alfred, a Category 2 Cyclone, is expected to make landfall on the Southern Queensland coast on Thursday evening/Friday morning.
Our biggest priority throughout this predicted weather event is the safety of our patients, staff, VMOs and onsite third-party services.

We have stood up incident response teams at all our hospitals in alignment with our Emergency Planning processes. We have also established a statewide response team and have enacted plans to respond to the potential impact of Cyclone Alfred.

❗ UPCOMING GP Education:❗

Supporting ADHD patients and their GPs in our community.

🕕 Tuesday 18th March
6pm

Pine Rivers Private is here to support your patients and will also be presenting an education session for Mental Health and ADHD in the community setting.

At this dinner event, This session will delve into the assessment and management of executive dysfunction in adults, examining its presentation across conditions such as ADHD, mood disorders, and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Executive dysfunction refers to difficulties with high-level cognitive processes such as planning, organising, decision-making, regulating attention, and managing emotions.

These challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, work performance, and relationships. The talk will equip general practitioners with practical strategies to differentiate between FTD and the main psychiatric (e.g., ADHD) causes of executive dysfunction in older adults and highlight therapeutic interventions, including the "Optimising Your Potential" program, to support patients with these difficulties.

Learning outcomes to be achieved;
1. Describe what executive dysfunction is and its impact on daily life and mental health.
2. Identify key symptoms and red flags that differentiate FTD from psychiatric disorders in adults.
3. Apply practical tools and strategies for the workup of executive dysfunction in primary care settings.
4.Describe the benefits of psychological interventions, such as "Optimising Your Potential," in improving executive functioning and patient outcomes.

2 CPD Educational Activity (EA) hours, along with 2 hrs Reviewing Performance (RP).
This activity is pending approval from the RACGP
