What does it truly mean to care for the vulnerable, especially at Christmas?

Is it the gifts? Or is it showing up, sitting down, sharing a coffee and a biscuit, and sharing a moment to genuinely connect?

Caring is about recognising those who have lived full lives, contributing to their communities and now deserve to be supported with kindness and patience.

This brief but special moment, shared by our Outreach Leader Joseph Raish is a humble reminder that care isn’t complicated; it's simply human.

Presence, grace, and taking the time to check in can be more treasured than any festive gesture.

As the year draws to a close and the festive season gets busier and more colourful, we’re reminded that small acts of kindness are never overlooked.

This is what Christmas care looks like at Montessori Care! 🎄

Celebrating a beautiful and blessed evening with on December 9th.

It was truly an honour to be under the patronage of His Excellency, Antoine-Charbel Tarabay, Maronite Bishop of Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, blessing our ongoing collaboration to pursue the dignity of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Montessori Care are deeply grateful for this support to serve our communities with the same love and care that Christ calls us to show our neighbours and those closest to our hearts.

As founder Chris Omeissah quoted on the night “At Montessori Care, we recognise that we are an agency of God’s love and the most vulnerable members of our society are the beneficiaries.”

With God’s grace and the support of the Maronite community, our collaborative work will continue to cultivate, nurture and protect those who need it most.

On December 10th, we commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948.

At Montessori Care, we believe human rights are .
They show up in the way we listen.
In the way we support choice.
In the way we care with compassion, equality, and understanding.

When people are truly respected and supported, they can live with confidence, independence, and joy.

Let’s continue to ensure our rights are not just ideas but everyday actions.

We had the privilege of interviewing Velmah Chitenderu, a Complex and Critical Care Trainer with 20+ years of ICU experience. Her insights were powerful and inspiring. Here’s what she shared 👇

Q: General support vs. complex care?
General support is daily tasks. Complex care requires advanced, clinical-level skills such as tracheostomies, ventilation support and suctioning. It demands understanding, confidence and precision.

Q: Why proper training matters?
When workers understand why they are doing something, they do it safely, even under pressure.

Training = confidence = safety.

Q: What changes when someone is WELL-TRAINED?
“Everything.”
🌱 They read the care plan
🌱 They ask questions
🌱 They listen to families
🌱 They stay humble
🌱 They recognise every client is unique

Q: Biggest misconception about complex care?
“I have done this before, so I know.”

Q: Your advice to support workers?
Stay humble.
Work with families.
Ask when you are not 100 percent certain.
Document everything.

Speaking with Velmah, someone clinically skilled and deeply empathetic, reaffirmed how essential proper complex care training truly is.

At Montessori Care, we are committed to exactly that.
