Joint Pain and Musculoskeletal Disorders

Acupuncture can successfully treat a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders from acute traumatic injuries to chronic inflammatory degenerative conditions. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) takes a holistic approach to the treatment of these conditions.

Symptoms are considered within the functional context of the whole body and Chinese Medicine Practitioner will assess and treat the root cause of the condition as well as the presenting symptoms, with such treatments as Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, aiming to restore balance to and provide support for the musculoskeletal system.

Research studies have suggested that Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine when combined with exercise may be more effective than painkillers alone in the treatment of chronic pain conditions.

Acupuncture is recommended as a valuable treatment in pain management for acute and complex chronic pain. Acupuncture restores the body’s balance to reduce symptoms and to alleviate pain by:

Stimulating specific acupuncture points known to relieve pain.

Enhances the production of chemicals in the brain (endorphins and serotonin) which relieve pain and improve mood.

Stimulates nerves, muscles and connective tissue throughout the body to heal damaged tissue.

Can act as an analgesic for acute pain.

Can be combined with methods such as Chinese Herbal Medicine, Cupping and Moxibustion to expel pain and restore functioning.

Supports other forms of pain relief (such as exercise) by relaxing nerves and muscles throughout the body.

Vertigo is a type of dizziness where you feel that the room is spinning or you are unbalanced. Vertigo can be distressing but it is not usually caused by a serious medical problem. The most common type of vertigo is benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV).

Various important lifestyle factors such as emotional stress, overwork and improper diet can lead to health disorders, and contribute to the development of chronic conditions such as Meniere’s disease.

From Chinese Medicine's perspective, Vertigo and Meniere’s disease are attributed to Spleen and Kidney Yang Deficiency diagnostic pattern, causing phlegm and dampness obstruction, which can lead to vertigo, along with symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. Liver and Kidney Yin Deficiency is another possible cause or contributing factor which may causes "Liver wind to ascend" or Liver Yang hyperactivity, resulting in vertigo, dizziness, headache, blurred vision and tinnitus.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine may be able to relieve the symptoms of Vertigo or Meniere’s disease and also help to improve or resolve the condition. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine treatment can help to relieve the vertigo, tinnitus, feeling of fullness or pressure in the head, as well as to reduce the frequency of bouts of symptoms. Many sufferers have high levels of stress and/or anxiety, which Acupuncture and Chinese herbal Medicine can also help address.

Due to the chronic nature of this condition, as with other chronic long term conditions, treatment results may be slow, and take some time to achieve lasting results.

Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, as well as other Chinese Medicine modalities such as Tai Chi and Qi Gong can bring relief of vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss and other symptoms, bringing about the promotion of a better cooperation between the circulatory system, nervous system and immune system, in order to treat and prevent recurrance.

As always with Traditional Chinese Medicine, specific treatments are tailored to the nature of the individual’s condition, their bodily constitution, medical history and so on.

Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) of the wood Snake
Wed 29th Jan 2025

According to traditional Chinese beliefs, getting acupuncture on Chinese New Year Day is not considered bad; in fact, it can be seen as a positive way to start the new year with a focus on wellness and balance, aligning with the overall theme of renewal and good fortune associated with the holiday.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), acupuncture is used to harmonize the body's energy flow, and getting a treatment on New Year's Day can symbolize a fresh start and positive energy for the coming year.

Year of the wood Snake
The combination of the wood element and the snake is rare, occurring only once every 60 years.
The wood element adds creativity, growth, and flexibility to the snake's traits.
The snake represents wisdom and strategy, while the wood element represents stability, growth, and creativity.
It could be a good year for planning and transformation.
It could be a time to learn from the past and move forward with compassion, awareness, wisdom, and transformation.
It could be a time to focus on education.
Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chian, or Tai Chi) is based on the White Crane and Snake 😃

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers he health of the digestive system is considered the cornerstone of well being and good health.

According Chinese Medicine, consumed food is initially processed by the stomach system, where it’s 'ripened' or broken down into its useful (‘pure’) and waste (‘impure’) components.

The useful parts are directed upwards to the spleen system, where they're transformed into the nutrients, energy (Qi), blood and fluids which the body needs. Meanwhile, the wastes are directed downwards to the small intestine and ultimately the large intestine for excretion.

The final part of the digestive process, involves the small intestine system continuing the breakdown of food that was initiated in the stomach system, and directs any useful matter to the spleen for transformation and distribution through the body, and the wastes to the large intestine for excretion. If spleen and stomach systems aren’t in balance, one may experience bowel issues such as diarrhea, abdominal bloating, and flatulence, for example.

Too much heat in your system can also cause health problems and in this case you may experience such symptoms as constipation or dry stools (due to the intestinal fluids being dried up by the Heat). The liver also contributes to healthy digestion system by helping in the breakdown of fats and dietary toxins.

Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine has a long history of effectively treating Digestive problems and conditions
