When I was in my peak “spiritual girl era,” you best believe I had every piece of linen, crystals, and incense that a girl could want.
I was doing the meditations, going to the ceremonies, and doing the ecstatic dances.
When I was in these spaces, I felt on top of the world.
And then I would come home and feel angry, sad, and depressed until I got to the next event.
Spirituality became more about how I appeared externally, and I used it as a way to distract and bypass what I was genuinely feeling—to avoid getting to the root cause of my pain.
All of the tools in the world won’t help you if you are constantly dissociating and running from your everyday life.
Spirituality is a tool to assist you to feel grounded, calm, and enjoy the day-to-day — not detach.
We have lost sight, as a culture, that true personal development comes in the day-to-day life and quiet moments — not in the outward appearance.
