Saggy earlobes?

Prevention is better than cure but if your earlobes are saggy, there might be a simple fix with some dermal filler. If not then a simple surgical procedure can rejuvenate your lobes!

Don’t forget your sunscreen.

And for those that will ask:
tinted sunscreen
ColourStay concealer
Ski High lashes (mini size)
lip liner and brow pencil
ColourStay Stain Ink lipstick

Protect yourself from premature ageing 365 days of the year!

High SPF, broad-spectrum sunscreen. Protective clothing like hats and gloves can also be used in the car. And don’t leave the sunroof open!

Who hasn’t just done this in the mirror and thought “surely that’s not too hard??”. Guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️

I’m always being asked how or why I became a dermatologist. I’ve come a full circle and now get to do art as part of my job! And no sputum 😳

Thank you the who in invited me onto her podcast where we discussed melasma and my favourite topic - sun protection.

The longest UVA1 wavelengths, with significant and relatively constant levels all year round, produce detrimental effects in all layers of the skin.

Their effects primarily involve the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The resulting oxidative stress is the major mode of action of UVA1, contributing primarily to hyperpigmentation, inflammation and premature skin ageing.

Luckily we have a new sunscreen in their way to help us better protect against UVA1…. but you should remember that broad brim hats, shade and sunglasses are also essential to help fully protect your skin.

Ever tried a skin self-check?

Check out my sun-damaged arms from years of horse riding without sunscreen 🤦🏼‍♀️

The most important sign of skin cancer? Change.

Whether it’s a mole that’s growing, darkening, itching, or bleeding, that evolution is your biggest warning flag.

Skin cancers, like all cancers are cells growing out of control. The good thing about the skin is that we can visualise it and therefore we should be able to pick up a changing spot pretty early. Early detection is the key for a good outcome.

If you notice change, it’s time for a check.

Ever tried a skin self-check? 🪞 Start with the Ugly Duckling rule.

Stand in good light, use a mirror, and look for any spot that stands out as different from your others. Maybe it’s darker, larger, or just… doesn’t fit in with your other spots.

If there is an odd-one-out, save a photograph to monitor it for changes, or see your doctor if you’re worried.

Aim to have a look over your skin every 3 months - the start of each new season is a good time to remember.

Early detection is the key to a good outcome in skin cancer.
